So sun’s out and I need to replace the £5 sunnies I’ve got. I have a slight complication in that the optician has recommended black glass rather than brown (I kept getting headaches, this does seem to help).

I’ve got around £200 to spend but not sure what style would work.

so more stylish ladies- what are your sunnies like?

I have some big Jackie O prescription Ray bans that I love. Fancied a different style this year and went for some Aviators with gold rims and gradient glass, they aren't prescription just a cheap pair from New Look, they are surprisingly good, nice and light.

I have Chanel and Gucci. I would recommend just trying on lots and lots of pairs and see what you like. Report back to us! ❤️

Sadly I think this is what I need to do - I hate trying on sunnies and end up just hating them all / hating my face etc…

anyway, I’m oval face shape, but quite a small face/head.

there’s some good ideas on here, thank you!

Prada are amazing, I can’t remember the product code of mine but they’re acetate with polarised lenses. Lightweight and don’t seem to slip down my nose. The only problem was the case was crap, it was like a coated cardboard which looked really battered and scruffy very quickly. I replaced with a leather case from Aspinal.

Prada and Gucci are quite big this year. They tend to be decent in terms of trends. Ray Bans are very safe! I get frames and get optical lenses. My current ones are Dior and Gucci. DH likes Maui Jim. If you don't need optical lenses they might be worth a look.

"I personally don't love raybans, a bit too unisex for me. I've had multiple pairs and they're never my favourite."

Why on earth did you buy multiple pairs then?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 12/05/2024 02:52

I’ve worn Rayban Jackie O for the last few years. I like them so couldn’t care less whether they’re ‘fashionable’ or not.

Now I’m getting older and the old face is on a downward slope I like a cats eye. And they look quite good on my square face, even. Got last year’s Yves st Laurent and yes they were expensive but I love them.

Two were given to me, the third pair was the best option among a limited selection of prescription frames in the "second pair free" section. No need for the judgemental tone.

@OtterInDisgrace - cats eye to counter face slope is a good shout!

I think I need to up my budget and go trying on lots.

I love sunglasses so buy a pair every year as a treat to myself.

Raybans, usually a safe choice. Classic, not trendy

Tom Ford, I’m a fan but can only wear some styles as I have a narrow face - their frames are typically for a slightly wider head than mine.

Prada and Gucci, agree with others - some lovely styles.

Ralph, a less expensive frame but some lovely styles. Have bought myself several through the years.

As sunglasses are not as seasonalised as clothing I’ve been known to buy a frame I really love in each colour over a couple of years.

Try lots on and take your time.

I've just ordered some Celine sunglasses from the Liberty sale. I bought some fabulous huge Isabel Marant ones last year, but they were a mistake as they always slip down my nose.

PotPotPotting · 12/05/2024 09:19

Please can you ensure that when you buy your sunglasses they have polycarbonate lenses.

I recently watched a woman on Tiktok, Hannah Oliver, who is raising awareness around sunglasses and airbags in cars. She lost sight in one eye when her airbag deployed and broke her sunglasses shattering them into her eye.

It had never occurred to me that this could happen and now I will be buying poycarb ones for the car as I always have a pair of polarised sunglasses in the car.

Following for some ideas. I use prescription Ray-Bans but would like a cheaper for use with contact lenses. My Labrador often gets my sunglasses so I don't want to spend a fortune!

Panarycatty · 12/05/2024 09:26

I have some classic Raybans in black and although they are great, I find they are too dark for walking in and driving. Might try the Erika @useitorlose Thank you
