Talk to me about chin length curly bob haircuts

I have always worn my hair below shoulder length because I needed the length to weigh down the frizz.

I finally embraced the curls with success. I’ve had a curly cut and sorted out styling and it is manageable, not frizzy at all.

I have a very strong urge to cut it chin length because I have never worn it that short but now I understand the curls it could work. I think about this so often that I may need to cut it just so I can clear my head. I have an appointment next week.

Do you have a chin length curly bob? Is it a lot of work? Do you miss the ponytail? Will I regret it? I know it will grow back but these are habits of a lifetime.

Yes, I did do a graduated Bob with my curly hair - you do need to ‘own’ it. Unfortunately looked like crystal tips!

Mine too. I hacked at it with the kitchen scissors yesterday to try and get it to calm down a bit.

I have done in the past but wouldn’t go below shoulder length now. My curls look much better longer and i have less worry about having triangular hair now. My hairdresser wouldn’t let me go too short, for the reasons you yourself have given!

eta: my hairdresser is a curl specialist so she knows her stuff! She always tells me curls need a bit of weight to them.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 07/05/2024 16:10

@OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart I went with growing it shoulder length and buying all the clips/grips/claws etc to try and wrestle it under control in the meantime!

Thanks all. This is what I need to hear.

Perhaps I need to let this urge pass.

Mine is curly (and dry and grey) but looks fine in a chin length bob. I wash or wet it in the shower daily then, while it's still wet, lob in a blob of curl defining cream (Hersheson's Almost Everything is the best I've found so far) and wrap it in a turban to dry it out a bit. Then leave it to air dry. The cut is paramount though.

I did and it looked good, can see if I can find some pics

I’ve had a curly hair bob sitting a bit longer than chin - just above the shoulders - for over a year now. I do like it a lot when it’s looking good but there’s not much you can do with it when it’s all stretched out / frizzy / greasy. So I have to reset and style it more than I used to. I mostly wear it in a half pony when wrangling the toddler/baby. Definitely needs to be cut by a curl specialist! Overall I like it and I think I’ll keep it this length.

Ikeashowroom · 07/05/2024 16:32

I have one and I like it. I do miss the ponytail though and I find it harder to get three days out of a wash now because I can't wear it up. It looks a bit meh down on day 3.

You need to ask for layers to get a nice 'round' shape.

Cyclingmummy1 · 07/05/2024 22:28

I think shorter still is better, think bottom of the ear or even shorter than that.

I would look like Crystal tips if I went longer than chin length - and my brother is called Alistair 😆

TheBirdintheCave · 07/05/2024 23:19

I echo what @Ikeashowroom said about layers. It makes all the difference with a short curly cut. It's how I have mine done by my curl specialist though unfortunately she didn't cut one side's layers short enough this time 🙄 🤦🏻‍♀️

mondaytosunday · 07/05/2024 23:22

The reason I have a curly bob is because I don't have to do anything to it. Wash, comb through, that's it - I don't even dry it. Do have to cut it regularly though, it gets too 'floofy' otherwise. It just touches my shoulder.
And the cut is key.

Puppylucky · 08/05/2024 19:16

@buffyslayer your hair is lovely!

kkneat · 08/05/2024 19:31

I tried but my hair is very thick and it went outwards and looked awful. Shoulder length is what suits my curls the best
@buffyslayer you’re hair is lovely

Dahliasinallotment · 09/05/2024 13:53

@Buffyslayer that is exactly what I wish for.

thanks all - I’ll talk to my hairsresser. It feels like I have to try but maybe I’ll ease in.

Just following up on this for futures readers. I had it cut just above my shoulders and look like Crystal Tips, as I was warned.

I am, as was warned, making the best of it with mini claw clips.

This was a curly cut with all the trimmings, reclined chair, upside down cut, plenty of layers.

I am waiting for it to grow. Perhaps should be shorter, but I don’t dare.
