Best men's-for-women's swaps

Inspired by the men's razor thread, I'd like to pass on my best men's-for-women's swap:

https://www.boots.com/dove-men-anti-perspirant-deodorant-stick-clean-comfort-50ml-10101289

I was away for a weekend last month, forgot my deodorant and was given one of these by another woman. It has a decent neutral scent and is half the price and every bit as effective as my previous Mitchum/ Sure Max/ Dove Max women's deodorant choices. Women are being charged a massive premium.

Special £2 offer at Boots only lasts another 12 hours, by the way.

Jumpers and t-shirts, jumpers tend to have longer arms and are longer bodied. T-shirts tend to be thicker and are more likely to have natural fibres

Bananadramallamas · 07/05/2024 12:49

Socks.

Just for Men beard dye instead of Eyelure or similar eyebrow tints. The JFM lasts months and costs about £8 a box which lasts me a year.

Pyjama bottoms “Saville Row company” £25 a pair. Thick fabric and well made

I did a whole thread about this last summer because it fucked me off so much.

But basically men's short and T-shirt PJ sets rather than women's.
Men's are soft, long in the leg, good T-shirt coverage, durable, comfortable and don't have a gusset that feels like its trying to make you pregnant, like these
Women's are like something the leading lady would be wearing at the start of a soft core porn film - short shorts, vest tops, clingy crotches, thin and synthetic material.

I don't understand how you mean it's half the price of the woman's version.

There's loads of equivalent Dove women's deoderants at £2 or less, the same price as what you've linked to.

I keep reading about women supposedly being charged extra but I don't think it's anywhere near as widespread as people claim.

Plus for clothes, most mens clothes won't fit most women. The shape and proportions are all wrong.

Not ones that work as well as the ones I've been been buying until recently. Dove's cheaper women's 48 hours doesn't work for me. I'm aware of a faint whiff of stale sweat within 24 hours.

I have to use the Dove/ Sure women's extra protection (I think it says it offers 96 hours) to be sure of getting through a long day without damp/ smelly pits.

The men's 48 hours works for me. I can go at least 36 hours without worry if I have to. So it works out at half the price of the extra-strength anti-perspirant deodorants I was previously using.

I prefer the smell of the men's deodorant. No flowery nonsense, cheaper. No brainer really.
I like the look of those next PJs, proper pyjamas.

ShiftySquirrel · 07/05/2024 22:06

I've swapped to DH's Dove 2 in 1 shower gel and shampoo.

I love the smell and I only need one product to wash with, so saves time in the mornings. I have very long hair and it works fine for me.
Better still my teen DDs don't pinch it!

ParadiseLaundry · 07/05/2024 22:17

I used to love the green Sure mens roll on (not the sensitive one) it smelled amazing. I can't find it now Sad

WeightoftheWorld · 07/05/2024 22:24

I honestly don't know why I've never bought men's short PJs for the summer before after reading this! Makes so much sense! I'm a size 8-10 though, would am XS fit do you reckon? As long as they don't fall down my waist I don't care about the actual fit though. I like loose PJs anyway.

OP - that is the exact deodorant my DH has worn for years and swears by! Personally I don't like roll ons though so it's not for me.

Agree with t-shirts, and hoodies too. But only if you want that thick and baggy casual style. Which I do sometimes but not all the time.

I like men's hats too because I have a huge head!

Also Nivea Men sensitive shaving foam is good.

Allthebubbles44 · 07/05/2024 22:28

Boxers. Womens underwear is so uncomfortable to sleep in! Even the women's Boxers are shorter so only just cover your bum and have an annoying seam down the middle.

I have hips and a waist so jeans wouldn't fit, but men's T-shirts, sweatshirts and jumpers are fine.

Switching to men's PJs was an absolute revelation last summer. I'm a size 8 and I got the size S which fits completely fine.

You need Wirapa women's boxers.
I've never slept in them but they're so incredibly comfortable as daytime pants - no cross seam, wide crotch bit, soft material, decent coverage.

They're much better than men's (I tried men's for a long while because women's knickers are fucking shit) because they don't have that weird stick-y out pouch for tackle.

I second Wirarpa boxers, they're incredibly good and I ended up ditching out all of my sloggis et al in favour of them.

In all honesty, with the exception of jeans and underwear everything I buy is mens including deodorant and perfume. I prefer wood/leather/oud scents to anything citrus or floral.

Some particularly good buys in my opinion (im just over 5'8 for reference)

Mens M&S autograph long sleeved vests pure supima - make really great long sleeved t shirts - quite close fitted, really soft, wash great and are nice and relaxed with jeans. Or they do short sleeves if you prefer that.

Reiss Alexander garment dyed hoodies - slightly oversized so size down - wash well and are soooo soft and comfortable.

Ralph Lauren lounge pants / waffle tops - had mine years that I use as pjs.

Theres an American brand called True Classic that does T-shirts and joggers etc. Theyre designed to be fitted around the chest and arms with some room for the belly on men, BUT they work remarkably well on the female form because they look good on the boobs and arms but also accommodate hips.
Plus theyve always got a sale on and its free duty paid delivery with everything. They sell single items but also packs of 6 v necks etc etc.

Literally all mens sneakers outlast women's ones.

Mens scent - The Penhaligons trade routes are all unisex but none of them are overly sweet or flowery which I like. Quite spicy outdo amber etc etc.

Mens deoderant - Ilex from amazon, natural deodorant - I like the spiced patchouli one because it doesnt actually smell like patchouli. Smells more like spices and warm weather if that makes sense. Like a souk in Marrakech but without the sweaty part 😂

But! My greatest discovery so far is Baylis & Harding Goodness Oud Cedar and Amber shower gel. It's all essential oil based, smells blooming amazing and the scent stays. I get it from amazon at 17 quid for 3 half litre bottles. I think it's unisex but packaged to appeal to men.

Allthebubbles44 · 10/05/2024 07:15

@Verv @KStockHERO thanks for the recommendation! What is the sizing like?

I usually get mone from TomboyX but they are pricey as come from America but are very comfy and lots of funky patterns

Verv · 10/05/2024 13:32

I would say that they are true to size as per their inch measurements.
They've got a size guide on amazon but here it is -

My DDs are that size and both wear Primark XS men’s boxers and PJ sets around the house. Cotton and cheap.
I have size 7-8 feet and always wear men’s socks and walking boots. Trainers too sometimes.

I'd say sizing is okay but on the small side. I'm a size 8 - I found the smalls a bit too tight around the waist so I went for mediums. There's obviously a bit more space but they fit perfectly well.

Socks shoes tshirts shirts trousers (men's cropped often work well for full length) Imagine how good a man's bra would be
