Budget facial spf and retinoid recommendations

Hi
I've had to slash my budget and had been ordering from skin plus me, getting their spf and a prescription tretinoin which I've now cancelled. I have one more tube left of the tretinoin and the spf is half gone so looking to replace when it runs out. Budget is as low as possible without compromising quality.

I'm looking for recommendations for well performing budget versions and preferably an spf that a) won't sting my eyes and b) non shiny.

Someone in another thread mentioned Altruist and this looks good and interested to hear experiences of this and other brands. I'm 51.

Thank you

I get tretinoin from tretinoin world. A tube lasts me about 3 months and it was around £18. I'm using Skin Saints vitamin C SPF moisturiser which I got from Tesco for about £4. I used child's farm moisturiser at night to stop my skin drying out from tret. I have more expensive moisturisers but found the child's farm one to be the best.

Oh great thank you. My tretinoin currently lasts I'd say about 5 weeks so 3 months is much better! How do you find the spf? Is it Matt and not stingy?

Yeah never had any problems with the SPF and I have quite sensitive skin.

Altruist are THE best for sunscreens and highly affordable

WeRateSquirrels · 29/04/2024 12:03

I really like the Altruist face fluid and I have sensitive skin/eyes. Very good value.

ASighMadeOfStone · 29/04/2024 17:51

I use Garnier sensitive SPF 50. Costs about a fiver.
I've bought from Tretinoin World in the past as well, they're fine.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I'm really interested in the altruist now.

I use Q&A retinol serum and spf.
Cheap but great products

Yes I'm another altruist fan can't beat it for the price

I forgot to ask how's the altruist under make up and is there any bobbling with other skincare?

Not in my experience - it layers well and absorbs quickly but I also have the Altruist primer (also SPF 50) which I use under make-up. They are both very affordable so don't mind having two products in my bathroom cabinet.

FriendofDorothy · 05/05/2024 22:15

Altruist is fantastic. Works really well, great for my son who has very sensitive skin and great value. They have just brought out the facto9r 50 in a 1 litre pump bottle.

I’ve never had problems with makeup pilling over Altruist, although it might depend on the exact products you’re using.

BeretRaspberry · 05/05/2024 22:39

Another vote for Altruist. I have both the face fluid and primer. I probably prefer the face fluid though as I feel like I have to put more of the primer on to get coverage.

I’ve never had issues with pilling at all.
