Am feeling a bit inspiration-less clothes wise at the moment. I have lots of lovely clothes but tend to live in a "uniform" of pencil skirt and top for work, and jeans and a jumper for weekends.

SO what I would like to know is: what are your favourite outfits to wear for various "events" in your life?

Eg:
Typical day at work

Shopping

Going on a family day out, eg: a museum and lunch

Meal out with family

Meal out with dp

And so on?

And if you don't have typicals, now's the time to invent your "ideals"!!!

I am smart for work...probably too smart as I am a Teaching assistant, but I like to look nice! I might wear my black jersey long sleeved dress with opaques and my beloved black dolly shoes with the huge buckle.

Shoppin/going out with family etc, I would wear ...jeans probably, long sleeved teeshirt, converse or boots, and my leopard trench coat, which I adore.

Meal out...I don't really 'dress up'..I might just slap a bit more make up on or wear a chunky necklace. Would probably be skinny jeans and a top.

janeite · 01/04/2008 22:31

Ooh I like the sound of the dolly shoes! I'm a teacher and like to wear my Doc Martin cone heeled Mary Janes for work - they look smart but still feel like "me".

Any more?

Shopping - jeans

Going on a family day out, eg: a museum and lunch - prob jeans

Meal out with family - depends if during the day

Meal out with dp - full works - make-up, sexy/smart - skirt & heels or trousers & heels

chenin · 02/04/2008 20:46

Day at work... have to dress up so either tailored trousers, nice top and belt or high heels, pencil skirt, blouse type of thing

Shopping... jeans tucked in boots, vest top, casual jacket

Family day out... depends where... jeans probably!

Meal out... jeans (I feel there is a theme here!) top with a subtle cleavage and nice jewellery or
if somewhere posh... dress, stockings, high heels!

beansontoast · 02/04/2008 20:51

like this thread...cos i am nosey too.

my fave dress is green and black leopard skin...with yellow lace.

sounds nice huh?...i swear it is such a fantastic shpe ...perfect for my odd proportions...i love it.

the only lace i avent worn it is the beach...it can go anywhere.

(at the moment it wont go anyhwere near me cos im still carrying a stone and a half baby weight)

PeggySioux · 02/04/2008 20:52

Typical day at work: I don't work, but I used to wear eg pinstripe trousers, maryjanes and a smart shirt.

Shopping: Long skirt, linen shirt, crochet cardi, flat shoes.

Going on a family day out, eg: a museum and lunch: See shopping.

Meal out with family: See shopping.

Meal out with dp: Long skirt, eveningy top, FMBs.

carmenelectra · 02/04/2008 21:06

Work = uniform

Shopping= jeans and jumper(not too thick or end up sweating!) or various tops depending on weather. Small jacket. Maybe ugg style boots or flat ballerina style shoes.

Meal out either family or with dp would be nice jeans, maybe bootcut/straigt jeans and high boots or shoes, possible skinny jeans tucked into boots(could look a bit much though, depends where we were going)with a nice top. Got a couple of 'metallic' v- necked jumpers(nice).Sometimes i might wear a skirt(knee length 'flarey' style), polo neck jumper(thin, smart one) and knee length high heeled boots.

Day out =jeans(as always!) or linen trousers in summer or similar, tshirt or similar depending on weather, flat shoes or flip flops(summer!)

'proper' night out =dressy, tight jeans, have various sparkly, strappy tops, high strappy sandals or shoes. Occasionally trousers.

Today for general out and about ive worn tightish jeans with a black and white cotton knit jumper with three quarter sleeves, flat silver ballerina pumps and a silvery short jacket(sounds horrible, but is nice!)

janeite · 02/04/2008 21:10

Jeans seem to be the cover all option then?!!! i just feel that I'm sticking my jeans on to avoid thinking about footwear - have lots of nice skirts but never know what shoes to wear with them when it's not boot weather but not flip flop weather either.

FMBs? Does that mean what I think it might?!!

I hate the 'in between ' weather when too warm for boots and too wintery for flip flops.

last year i had to buy a couple of pairs of shoes for those times of year.

Never wear boots to go out at night unless its a meal. I love wearing strappy shoes when i get the chance!

I have way too many pairs of jeans!!

janeite · 02/04/2008 21:39

So what DOES one wear on one's feet for in between weather then?

I spent the day in London "doing" the galleries with dd1 today, so wore (gasp) trainers. DD1 said I looked like a "chav" but I walked for miles and my feet didn't hurt at all. I need a shoe equivalent of that feeling!

I wear 'pump' or tennis shoes type shoes for casual - I have some nice dusky pink ones from Bertie, but they're not trainery... bit like these from toast...

VERY comfy for loads of traipsing

EachPeachPearMum · 02/04/2008 21:48

I assume with FMB's the 'B' is boots?

Does that come with the birds nest hair too?

PeggySioux · 02/04/2008 22:01

Birds nest hair from lolling on the sofa complaining that I've eaten too much, my belt is too tight and my feet hurt from wearing these stupid boots? Yes.

EachPeachPearMum · 02/04/2008 22:17

But hopefully you got some action ?

janeite · 02/04/2008 22:30

Lol.

Those pumps are quite cute, very retro, EachPeach - but I really need something to wear with skirts.

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 02/04/2008 22:55

oh. SHould have read more thoroughly too busy soaking up the music threads!

I don't do skirts I'm afraid

janeite · 03/04/2008 18:00

Lol at soaking up the music threads. I was really enjoying them too and then it all turned into chickens instead.

Has anybody else got any ideas - or inspiration?

I went shopping for shoes today and came back with shoes for everybody else in the family but none for me. I did get tow more skirts though, so now need shoes even more!

So I can now answer my own question - on a day out shopping and for lunch with the family I wear: boots (too hot), knee length silk skirt, black scoop neck T-shirt, little blazer thing.
