Will hair extensions ruin my hair?

I have fine but not thinning hair (I have quite a few hairs on my head, but they're fine). My parents, hairdressers and friends have all commented on my hair.

I hate it. It's my biggest insecurity, it makes me feel awful about myself and it's always scraped back. I booked a consultation for hair extensions, I've done research and created a basket of products for if I go through with it. But I've got this niggling doubt in the back of my head that they'll ruin my hair. Even though everything online says they won't, the extensions nowadays are a million times better than they used to be, that getting them properly installed and caring for them is the best way to avoid damage.

Am I idiotic if I go through with them? I just want to be able to wear my hair down and feel good about myself.

Hi OP! I hear you. I've got terribly fine hair and have been wearing extensions on and off for years now with zero damage. It's super important to do your research (which you have done as you say) and only go to a hair extension technician that has great reviews and is suitably qualified. They should advise you which technique is best for you and you have to be prepared for regular salon trips and maintenance, which can be costly. They also should be advising you on how best to take care of your extensions. For me it's a total game changer, they give me so much confidence! I have tape extensions and only two packs - they give me a bit of length but mostly volume but look very natural, so much so that most people can't believe they're extensions. One other thing if you dont go ahead, you can get really realistic looking fake buns that you put over your own bun that just give the appearance of much more volume.

Can you still wear your hair up?

Just as an update (because I have a ton more questions)

Went for my first consultation, the actual extensionist wasn't in so I'm going back next weekend.

But I have my date booked in to get them in!!! We found a perfect colour match to my hair and decided on 150g. Does that seem like too much?

I have fine blonde hair, quite a lot of it but it’s like baby hair!
I have nano rings every couple of times a year (they stay in for approx 10 weeks) and I bloody love them.
just always ensure you dry them properly and wash them regularly.

personally I’d go for less hair the first time …no more than 100g

Best thing I ever did. I've had them without a break for 9 years. I have nano's. Just make sure you keep up the appointments every 10-12 weeks for your refit. I wouldn't be without them. Ow. Enjoy x
