Matching, personalised for girls weekend away?

PostPopper · 26/04/2024 10:15

Going on a girls trip to the sun for a few days and want something matching and personalised for us all to wear.
Not T-shirt or hoodie. Thinking more pjs, beach cover up maybe?
Any ideas?

CRINGE.

Unless you're all 12, don't do it.

quizzys · 26/04/2024 10:40

Why? Why? Why?

DrJoanAllenby · 26/04/2024 10:40

I'm an old git so this kind of thing is horrifying but if it's a trend that makes young people happy .....🤷🏼‍♀️

How about those towels you can design that have you can personalise to have a cartoon character look like you and your name on the towel?

Then you all have one but they aren't the same!

UnpickThePockets · 26/04/2024 10:41

Do your friends want this too? Personally, I would laugh in the face of a mate who tried to get this going with me.

Not. A. Chance.

It makes me ill to type this but this is the kind of horrific thing I mean -

When I've seen these naff photos of women wearing matching pyjamas or holiday dresses etc there is always one girl much larger than the others who sticks out like a sore thumb and must be dying inside.

It's cruel.

My first idea would be 'don't'. But if that's not an option, then please think about something that people can use/wear again. So it needs to be tasteful, probably fairly subtly personalised (which potentially defeats the object, depending on why you want to do it) and of decent quality. Buying clothes for a single use is so wasteful. I don't know what that clothing item would be TBH. The only time I've ever done it was for a running event, and we had running tshirts with our names on (that we have all worn loads since).

You could go down a slightly different route - if you look at The Label Lady website, she does personalised cold cups etc. So everyone could have one of those, and they have a clear use when you get back home afterwards.

One question. Why?

BigBadBarri · 26/04/2024 11:00

I love matching stuff like this, I don’t really care if mumsnetters (who are usually proudly friendless anyway) judge. Beach coverups are a lovely idea - don’t get personalised ones but get matching then you can use them again. Themed - like white ones, or tropical ones would be nice

or personalised Stanley cups for drinks

Peonies12 · 26/04/2024 11:01

It's such a waste of money and the planet's resources, you'll never wear that item again.

MerryChristmasToYou · 26/04/2024 11:22

Pink sashes with 'Team Bride-to-be' on them?

NewPinkJacket · 26/04/2024 11:24

How old are the girls?

Under 10 I'd say probably pyjamas

Between 10 and 17 I'd say maybe a beach cover up?

PostPopper · 26/04/2024 11:48

Oh yes, travel cups, perfect!
thank you!!

What grumpy responses!! I love a theme or matching for an activity.

Matching pyjamas sounds very cute! And it does make nice photos. Something cheap and cute like a shorts and top pyjama set in the same colour Smile

ShiteRider · 26/04/2024 11:55

This is everything I hate about ‘girls’ social events. I feel uncomfortable and embarrassed and I’m not even part of it. I avoid them now on the off chance that someone might think it’s a good idea, especially as in the last one someone unexpectedly produced tiaras and a sash and I felt forced to wear them.

There's a difference between a theme which people can work to themselves and getting matching, personalised things which will most likely be worn once and discarded. It's just such a waste. It is entirely possible to have a great, fun weekend (and yes - to take great photos too) without spending money on stuff which is never going to get used again and which was most likely made in a sweatshop somewhere (because people will want cheap stuff (knowing it won't be used again) and cheap always has a price of some sort attached).

It's all very look at ussssss we're on holidaaaaay and we're right crazy, we are!

Let's fuck the planet up for some Nice Photos.

Hmm

And let’s forget about the poor kids in India / Turkey etc making these. It’s all for the ‘gram!

DrJoanAllenby · 26/04/2024 13:33

It's all very 'Brits abroad!'

Along with matching outfits- spray tans, big eyebrows, drinking to excess, shrill voices and screeches of laughter when a waiter says good evening.

Halfway through the holiday 'Nicola' bursts into tears because secretly she hates 'Jane' and there's a big bust up with the group and 'Sandra' spends the rest of the holiday shagging as many waiters as she can and then they are all smiles for the photos and when they get back home half of them never speak to each other again.
