South of France - June

I'm going to a SUPER posh restaurant in mid-June in the south of France (Nice). I need ideas on what to wear!

I'm 44, size 10-12, hourglass figure, 5'3". I favour swing style skirts, or a-line when dressing up, can't do anything too figure hugging. I live in jeans day-to-day.

This is work related so needs to be fancy, but not revealing (not that I'd wear revealing anyway)!

I love the idea of the blue look below, but I wonder if satin would be too hot. I'll be on a shaded terrace at the restaurant and it will have a breeze.

The pink look below is nice, but I'd definitely have to take up the trousers (which is fine I do it all the time).

Skirts always feel dressier to me, and I have good legs so feel like maybe I should show them off...?

(I think I'm overthinking this.)

How exciting! It’s likely to be hot. I think I would go for a dress in natural fibres. Me and Em have lovely ones

I was thinking I should go for something cotton because of the heat - the problem is there's only about a million cotton dresses out there! 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Have you looked at the link? I would go for something like that. They’ve got some lovely pastel ones if that’s your thing. I’d add a cream linen blazer. People are less dressed up these days IMO.

Maybe something like this? And a cream blazer sounds like a great idea. I run cold normally (even in hot weather) and I like the idea of having something "just in case" as well as protection from the sun too, in case the terrace isn't as shaded as I'd like!

This is fine, but wear flat shoes.

Just don't use Emily in Paris as any kind of guide.

I am French and live in France.

Where are the other guests from?

This is also fine, (ideally in a more muted colour if you want to fit in.)

Spaghettio · 25/04/2024 19:23

@Jeannne92 all other guests are British (actually one South African who has lived here for 20+ years).

Due to the nature of the other guests, I will probably be the least flamboyant, even if I wear a crazy colour, so I'm not worried about being too flashy!

Flat shoes would be ideal, but I'm quite conscious of my height (or lack of) so I always wear at least a small heel! There will be a couple of tall, willowy, glamorous guests, so I'm aiming not to look frumpy next to them!

Any of the Sezane ones appeal? https://www.sezane.com/en/collection/shoes/sandals

These are my kind of style - they'd be nice with the pink trousers I think - and would reduce the amount I'd have to take the trousers up....! 😆

I think both of the outfits you linked are beautiful, maybe the pink just about swings it for me. What website are you using where it shows you whole outfits like that?

eurochick · 26/04/2024 07:05

The satin will be too heavy. It will be HOT by then. I think the pink outfit is lovely.

It's Chicwish. I haven't actually bought anything from them, but I like the whole outfit ideas they have. It makes life easy!

I'm leaning towards pink too - I'll probably be more likely to rewear those trousers, than a fancy skirt.

I'll swap out the satin top for a cotton one.
