All these backless dresses… do people just go braless? (Pic included)

I recently lost a lot of weight and I’m still finding my feet with regards to dressing for my new shape.

All I see in the shops are backless dresses, they’re so pretty (also I have a very pretty and delicate floral spine tattoo which looks very nice in them) but what is the boob area meant to look like? I am a 30E post weight loss and pregnancies.. this is without a bra but I don’t think it’s meant to look like this is it? Or is it a case of getting used to a different shape after only ever wearing dresses with bras. Or just forget the backless aesthetic altogether?!

The pics are of the model and of me (same dress but brighter in the changing room photo!)

I think that looks really good on you

museumum · 20/04/2024 17:44

You look great in it but if you feel unsupported are all kinds of stick on things available now.

MiddleagedBeachbum · 20/04/2024 17:44

It looks fab on you!

You could use tape, or get those gel sticky bra things. Or just wear without if you want!

WhereAreWeNow · 20/04/2024 17:47

It looks good. Personally I don't buy dresses I can't wear a bra under because I don't feel comfortable going out braless. I'm same size as you. But if you feel comfortable, go for it!

SuncreamAndIceCream · 20/04/2024 17:48

Yeah braless is a thing now. I think it only tends to look good on the young tbh though all shapes and sizes of young women seem to be confident enough to do it

Fair play to them, I just feel too self conscious. I only wear stuff I can do a bra with these days unless the style of the dress is supportive in the chest area!

I am a 30f and I use tape rather than something stick on. I use some nude zinc oxide sports tape as I find this sticks the best.

stillavid · 20/04/2024 17:54

You look great - personally I would just wear like that - the stick on things aren't great in my experience.

pilates · 20/04/2024 17:56

It looks fine to me

Thank you for the kind comments! I think the diagonal line is supposed to go between the boobs not across them, so I assume I need a bit of lift.

i have never tried the stick on things but they’re strapless aren’t they? Do they actually lift at all? I assumed they were more like nipple covers!

does the tape stick the dress to the skin, or is it to try and tape the boob to the upper chest? They’re quite lacking in volume…

Stick on bras are really good now. I bought some from Amazon a while ago following a recommendation on here and they’re great (and reusable). They don’t give as much support as a proper bra but enough to wear backless styles without a problem. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CatoFree-Invisible-Reusable-Backless-Strapless/dp/B0C16FCFMP?pd_rd_w=At87W&content-id=amzn1.sym.38f90169-67d8-49b7-8ef1-61bdff262c06&pf_rd_p=38f90169-67d8-49b7-8ef1-61bdff262c06&pf_rd_r=SD5T1YZ4BNMY1DDDVNA1&pd_rd_wg=UwfN1&pd_rd_r=d1911b41-c68e-4769-a4e7-3caa90ce8ee2&pd_rd_i=B0C16FCFMP&psc=1&ref_=pd_basp_m_rpt_ba_s_4_sc

I didn’t realise they were reusable!

I favour a well engineered bit of Freya scaffolding, I’m not sure how they would hold the deflated balloon like texture im left with post weight loss but perhaps it’s worth a try!
