Don't know what to do hair cut wise (with pics)

I have very very fine curly hair, that I've never really known what to do with! Post covid I've just been trimming it myself, but previously with hairdressers I've always just had it trimmed to various lengths.

I want to get it cut a bit shorter, but don't really know what to ask for at the hairdressers or what would actually work with my hair type. The thing that annoys me most is how flat it sits on top of my head - it looks thick but it isn't, it just tends to puff up around the ends because of how fine it is. I was wondering if a bob a couple of inches shorter than it is now would work, but the type where it's longer at the front? Or would that be a disaster?

Could you find a hairdresser who specialises in curly hair, then ask them for advice?

Have a look at this group on Facebook, The Wavy Hair Method by Charlotte Rich. Loads of fab advice on how to manage curly/wavy hair. The before/after pics are fab.

My hair is similar OP. I have found a bob to be a good style. You have to make sure the hairdresser knows what they're doing though because it can really puff up and become a bit big and fluffy.
Have you tried using gel etc to get more defined curls? There are lots of curly hair tutorials on YouTube that show you how to wash, dry and style your hair to get defined curls. If you haven't tried that, it might be worth a go before cutting because it might influence how you want to style your hair.
