I work for a company that is usually fully remote working, but tomorrow we have an in person CPD/Conference event. We’ve been asked to dress “smart professional” for photos etc.

i have two outfits in mind - was curious to gauge which one fits the brief better - especially considering it’s been about 4 years since I’ve worn work clothes I know things have changed!

First option is navy wide leg trousers with a pale pink shirt. This was my first choice as feels more current and is comfy - but is it smart professional enough?

second is a green midi length shirt dress. This would’ve been my go to when I last worked in a professional setting but fear it might be ott now?

Curious to see which outfit people think I should go with? I’d pair both with a blazer and loafers.

Navy wide leg trousers and pink shirt - timelessly chic, fits the professional casual mandate perfectly

Agree - definitely the trouser and shirt. A shirt dress is a bit too casual- a bit dated too.

The trousers and shirt, 100%

Trousers and shirt sound perfect

Thank you - nice to see the consensus agrees with my initial choice!

I think I a) panicked that as it’s a company that has wfh forever, expectations of what is professional wear might be a bit dated and I didn’t want to appear underdressed and b) remembered this dress that had been languishing in my wardrobe for 2 years since I last wore it to a wedding and felt guilty 😅maybe it’s a sign I should put it on Vinted haha

I listed the dress on Vinted and it sold in seconds so I’m going to have to go with the trousers and shirt now!
