Stan smiths - is it normal for them to dig in?

Just bought these and like the look of them but the tongue really sticks into my leg and seems to be about an inch too long

Is this how they're meant to fit? And if so does the tongue ease up?

They look fake to me

I had a pair of Stan Smiths a couple of years ago. I don't remember the tongue digging into my leg or being uncomfortable. It possibly wasn't as high up as yours . I'd probably try and fold the tongue forward a bit and hope it loosens/softens up with wear .

I've just had a look at some online and mine definitely didn't have a high tongue like yours .

Return them.

Not exactly answering your question but I have Adidas gazelles with tongues like that. I don't find them comfortable and hardly wear them.

I bought from JD Sports so would assume they're real

I have a pair of Stan smiths but the tongue doesn't go as far up as that and it's quite cushioned. One thing that bugs me though is that the tongue keeps slipping to the side and goes all wonky.

I’m a bit of a stan smith expert (have 5 or 6 pairs). Some styles have a long hard tongue and some have a shorter cushioned tongue. In my experience, the long tongue never truly softens (though it gets better over time). I can usually tell from the pics online which tongue it is now, but to be honest, i
usually prefer to try on in a shop. Also, they have never been quite as comfortable since they stopped using leather uppers.

Dingdong99 · 17/04/2024 18:38

I do like them but the long tongue is unbearable so I'll have to have a shop around. Thanks all

I think you’ve got a special edition pair there. I wear them all the time and bought my 2024 pair last week, in my usual boring white and green. Tongue is a normal length. They do all sorts of variations but if you look on the website the Lux ones have the gold stamp and the giant, hard tongue. Here is my well loved 2023 and box fresh 2024 for comparison. The standard ones, every time. They hit the front of my ankle, just, but they’re soft. I saw some trend predictor on TikTok last week who said that the big tongued trainer look will be ‘everywhere’ this year. Everywhere but my feet. I’d take those back!
