Moisturiser for very dry skin.

My skin has always been dry and sensitive. Recently Neutrogena has stopped working. It’s possibly peri-menopause related.

What’s a good body moisturiser for very dry skin?

I used olive oil and stopped using soap on anything but smelly parts 🤢 and visible dirt. Just lots of warm water and a flannel in the shower. That worked for me.
just a little bit of ordinary olive oil afterwards and be careful not to slip over. My skin really reacted badly to being stripped by chemicals everyday with shower gel and conventional moisturiser, so I had to minimise them.
i can have bath soaks or use scented lotions from time to time now but it was about a fortnight of smelling a bit vegetabley and then my skin was lush!

I recommend one with Shea butter and oils.
Kiehl’s creme de corps is great, and so is Necessaire’s Body lotion. They’re both pricey, though. CeraVe body cream is nearly as good and much cheaper.
Clinique 72 hour intense moisturiser is great for a dry face.

I came on to say these exact ones!

Try to avoid anything with a strong fragrance as they are mostly just irritating.

I really like Aveeno Dermexa daily emollient cream.

O’keefes is the best for me. I have life long eczema. Skin like paper

La Roche Posay lipikar balm is also good but more expensive

I absolutely love this lotion. Cheap as chips, unscented and bloody brilliant. It's around £8

I've got really dry skin and like you I think peri has made it alot worse. I use the vaseline advanced repair and it is really lovely on the skin.

spottedinthewilds · 15/04/2024 14:04

I use the dark blue version of Aveeno - it's the only thing that works for me.

L’Occitane Shea body lotion. Their shower oil is a big help too.

Mumonceremoved · 15/04/2024 14:07

Another vote for CeraVe.

Yes my skin loves this. Moisturises without being greasy. On really bad days I layer up with this and Cetraben moisturising cream (for dry, itchy and eczema prone skin) Need just a bit of that - 475ml from Amazon. Lasts ages and excellent for the very dry skin on my legs and feet. 🌹

Vanicream is good.
Here is my routine that I follow:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Vanicream moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

I have very dry skin and have used body moisturiser all over for many decades. Because its every day and everywhere I am quite conscious about not using anything with chemicals that might accumulate in my body. My absolute favourite at the moment is Weleda Sea Buckthorn lotion. It appears quite light and runny but my goodness it does the job, and has a very natural and healthy ingredients list.

SmallestInTheClass · 15/04/2024 17:09

I have used aveeno when struggling, but always end up resorting to buying double base over the counter if it gets really bad. Also really like the Tesco Aloe Vera - cheap as chips but seems to do the job much better than a lot of more expensive ones I've tried.

Lots of helpful ideas. Thank you everyone.

I’m going to try Cetraben first since I’ve had eczema in the past. My skin went off Aveno unfortunately.
