I want a teeny tiny gold fob watch, but it has to be gold

I'm very allergic

I react to the back of watches

So I either need a fob watch with no back or a gold back

Or an all gold watch I can attach a bracelet to

Any ideas where I should look?

Marc jacobs have really pretty necklace style watches, but they're gold plated, would that workhere

KatyMac · 30/03/2008 20:41

Interesting - expensive - but interesting

Try eBay for an antique one. You may have to buy the buckle separately, but there are certainly lots of gold watches out there, particularly from the 20s-30s.

KatyMac · 31/03/2008 21:35

Nah - I have been looking but not found anything small enough

how about this House of Fraiser - they have others.

bit pricey

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 08:31

Thanks - but they both have watch backs - that's the bit I'm allergic to

IS it the nickel you are allergic too? I too am allergic to watch backs and after lots of different watches i ended up buying one of these www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001001&langId=-1&search Terms=nurse+watch
I must also add i got bought a watch from NEXT that was nickel free and i can wear that no problem now.

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 09:01

I am allergic to nickel, silver (some sterling silver & some silver), steel, titanium, copper and brass

So I'm fairly stuffed

the nurses ones are good cos they can go on tops etc. have you tried the scarf watches? the ones where oyu thread the watch onto a scarf so no metal touches oyur skin? alternatively what about wearing a sweat band under the watch?

bonkerz · 01/04/2008 09:17

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2830663/Trail/searchtext%3EWATCH.htm
This one has leather strap so the watch doesnt touch oyur skin

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 09:30

I;m kinda allergic to the elastic in sweatbands too

That strap would be OK except the rivets normally have a bottom bit that touches my skin

Gosh I am so fussy

I thought a tiny fob would dangle on my bracelet & I'd be OK

studio sell watches that are keyrings.....www.browse.24studio.co.uk/shared/search/viewresults.asp?p=1

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 11:52

this is the sort of think I want - but it isn't gold

All the real gold watches are uber expensive whats your price range, there's a really pretty one here

Mucha · 01/04/2008 17:37

Rotary do 9k and 18k gold watches and will probably be the most reasonably priced for ones in precious metal. You are better off to get a higher karat of gold because the other metals that are used will be things like zinc and copper. try here

Also, if you get some clear nail varnish and paint on the section that will be next to your skin it will be like a barrier.

CountessDracula · 01/04/2008 17:39

Are you allergic to silver too?
That might be cheaper

My dad might have one he is antique clock man

CountessDracula · 01/04/2008 17:40

I am slightly confused now about what you want

Is it a fob watch
or a wristwatch?

CountessDracula · 01/04/2008 17:40

also you can get watches with glass backs that expose the movement

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 17:41

Tbh I think I'd just go watchless !

Mucha · 01/04/2008 17:41

Oh, and be careful with anything gold plated unless it is really good quality. The cheap watches will be only a couple of microns thick whereas the superdooper expensive ones will be about 10 microns. Keep any creams away from it or it will wear down quicker and never spray perfume on it. Few little tips to keep your gold watches from having the colour stripped off them! Same goes for any white gold that you wear.

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 18:32

What I really wanted was a little fob watch I could hang on my bracelet, a glass backed watch would be great - mot of my costume jewellry is glass

Don't use creams, spray or perfume

Do you not have a mobile, I use mine to tell the time. I set the clock face to appear on the home screen so I dont have to look up the time using the menu.

Iota · 01/04/2008 19:24

you could get one of these if you had a few hundred to spare

Mucha · 01/04/2008 19:30

The gold plating on that would only be a few microns thick. I have been looking for something in 9 or 18 k and it ain't easy!

KatyMac · 01/04/2008 21:28

I thought if it was on my bracelet it wouldn't be touching me too much

I do think the keyfob are the way to go
