Anyone else giving up salon nails due to price increase?

I've been having BIAB nails as never been able to grow my own but due to the price increase I don't think I can justify paying over £30 every 3 weeks for nails. I am also struggling with the time factor and the fact I seem to break/chip the odd nail before the 3 week period too so they aren't even lasting. I am currently soaking them off in the hope I can maintain my natural nail growth 😬

The nail teach have put their prices up this week because the products have increased so much that on average they earn £8.40 per hour. Which is clearly a long way below the NMW.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable that someone was earning such a low wage and that I was contributing to that.

Of course they should be earning a living wage.

How do you all cope not having the nails done? It is tempting to just pop back

Stopped getting them about a done about a year ago !( not because of cost ) Actually prefer natural nails they look clean and tidy and noticed a lot more people not having nails done ! Now when I see done nails they make me glad I don’t have them !
no criticism to anyone just my preference x

Yes. I started using the Lily &Fox nails vinyl stickers. I haven't got my nails done since December

How are you finding the nail wraps? Never used them before and where do you purchase them from?

My nail tech has gone up to £30 for acrylics, gel polish and nail art. Tbh it's still good value for the finish, they still look good 3 weeks later other than small regrowth.

I have a luxury pedicure with the chiropodist every 8 weeks, this is £50 (thankfully I can reclaim this from Bupa), I paint my toenails myself.

I bought from Lily & Fox

lilyandfox.com.au/collections/all/products/pink-champagne

shipping was free and reasonable priced. They gave a free set to practice with (and a lovely hand written note)

I find them really good so far. I'm a newbie at them and there's a bit of learning to them and they are a bit fiddly. My nails are short and I'd say they would be easier on long nails. They are lasting reasonably well (2weeks).

The glitter ones are more forgiving than a solid colour when starting. I have my own nail lamp and colours but find they don't last when I do them so the wraps are much handier than self painting.

Gel manicure where I am is £33. Simple nail art is 50p and more complicated art is £1 per nail. Mini pedicure is £30, luxury pedicure is £40. I used to get the luxury pedicure but she just used a scrub and gets the hard skin off the bottom of my but I’m not seeing much difference. I start getting pedicures in April so I’m ready for summer! Probably get them every 6 weeks. I also get my nails done every 3 weeks. I’ve had a few months of holidays/birthdays/weddings but I’ll take a break over the summer I think.

I also spend £100 on a hair cut every 3 months, £50 on a Brazilian wax every 6-8 weeks and have just started getting my eyebrows and lashes waxed and tinted which costs £32 every 3 weeks.

I started buying nail wraps after reading a thread on here last year and have not had my nails done since. It was a rare treat anyway - only used to have them done when going away or special occasion.

I dont begrudge the price increase - everyone deserves a fair wage for the work done but ultimately the savings mean my money can be spent better elsewhere
