What to wear in Madrid?

Help! I’m going to Madrid next week for a city break. What is suitable for a 50 something lady to wear in Madrid in spring? I’m not usually this hopeless but I’ve had a big weight change and have spent the last year in sports wear and Sweaty Betty yoga pants! What would keep me comfortable, but be in keeping with a stylish Spanish city? Thank you!! 🙂

I'd wear jeans, trainers and a nice little jacket. And sunglasses. I guess it depends on what you're doing and what the weather forecast is.

I away walk miles on city breaks - so start outfit planning from the shoes up. I learned the hard way to take 2 pairs in case one starts to rub and you need an alternative. So perhaps some trainers and a pair of wedge espadrilles? It's going to be reasonably warm. Do you prefer wearing dresses or trousers? With temperatures in mid 20s I prefer dresses so I would pack one for each day and a jacket and a shawl or two for evening.

I spoke to someone there today, she said it's up to 26 in the day but freezing in the evening. So I'd say layers are your friend.

Jeans, trainers, puffa jacket.
When I was last in Madrid in April, it snowed. You'd get a sunburnt face in the day, and sleep in a jumper at night.

I'm a bit older than you OP, and I just want COMFORT when walking miles in a big city. And of course something decent for going out at night, but I've found over the years that anything goes in the daytime, and just a little effort at night is all you need!

So I swear by loose stretchy jersey like trousers that are just so comfortable to wear. Like these, so comfortable especially if it's warm, as they seem to let the air in somehow lol. Loose T shirt on top. I have a big bust but small waist so I buy a bigger size and tie a knot in the side of the T shirt and it looks very chic ha ha. But it's not stuck to me as I don't like things too fitted.

Might sound like I've given up, but honestly they are the best thing ever. A good pair of broken in trainers for walking are essential. Backpack of choice for putting in and taking off the layers as needed is a good bet too.

I'm not a dress person so I go for tailored dark coloured trousers and nice tops for nightime. One pair of flat shoes kind of like brogue design, high on the instep anyway. Like these

A light puffer jacket, a scarf, a small crossbody bag and you're done. Oh and don't forget the lippy and the debit card lol.

Have a wonderful time, Madrid is fabulous.
