Hi,

So I have the 4 0 coming up and decided I want a dress to feel sexy AF in 😂 for a fancy dinner with family and friends. Yes, elegant too, but I really want to feel a bit special for this and definitely wanted something with a bit of a wow factor and yes, sexy.

Anyway, bought this gorgeous sage green midi dress, which looks great on the boobs, hips and waist,l - so fab from the front, but from the side, I look like a pancake 😶 I think I'm what they call an 'inverted triangle' (?) which makes finding clothes a bit more of a challenge.

I love how it looks from the front! I definitely do feel sexy and curvy, so I really don't want to have to return it, but at the same time, I don't want to feel uncomfortable on the night, wondering if I look a bit odd from the side... and back actually, although not so much, oddly.

I've looked into shape wear, but this dress is tight! Borderline bandage dress, but it kicks out at the bottom, so is more flatteting for me from the front. I'm not sure if there's anything that exists, that won't make me look silly. If I rock up with butt pads, people will notice 😳 They know I don't usually really have a bum and I don't think it's just like wearing a padded bra.

So with all that in mind, is what I want even possible or should I just return it and buy something less 'bum emphasising'?

TIA

can you post a head-down photo of you wearing it?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/04/2024 13:38

Or a link to a website?

I wonder if you really look like you have a flat bum or if you’re comparing yourself to idealised stuff you’re seeing on social media.

FeistyFrankie · 11/04/2024 14:12

It looks lovely, are you sure you’re not overthinking it? I can’t recall ever seeing someone’s outfit and judging how good it looks from a side angle. I doubt anyone would notice or even care. If you look good in it front and back then I say, go for it!

LlynTegid · 11/04/2024 14:13

Lovely dress, agree you might be overthinking.

Pantaloons99 · 11/04/2024 14:15

You can buy padded bum knickers on Amazon. I had some years ago. They are so effective and you look like you have a fab pert posterior. They do nice lacy black ones. It's pretty much like a padded bra

Beatrixslobber · 11/04/2024 14:15

I don’t think that I have ever looked at someone and thought that about how flat their bottom looks.

Livinghappy · 11/04/2024 14:18

I have that dress. It looks great and I'm not sure anyone notices the back.

LadyPancake · 11/04/2024 14:18

@Cheeesus there is a possibility of that, but I've always felt a bit like this. Even before SM and big bums were fashionable. I genuinely just think curves are so sexy, but of course the age of the Insta ready, filtered to hell images don't help my insecurities......even though I know they're filtered 🤔 Not sure what that says about me really 😂

LadyPancake · 11/04/2024 14:24

@Pantaloons99 I was tempted to go down this route, but DP laughed for quite a long time earlier when I suggested I might wear them 😬 Kinda put me off...

@Livinghappy Oh wow, it is a beautiful dress. Can I ask what occasion you bought it for?

Interesting how most of you are saying I'm probably over thinking it and that you've not really noticed anyone looking flat from the side or back 🤔 Maybe I'm just super self critical.

Nervous about posting a photo in case I prove you all wrong and you actually do see what I mean! 🤣

I actually think the dress would look better on an inverted triangle, wider shoulders would balance out the proportions.

LadyPancake · 11/04/2024 15:28

@cathyandclaire that's why I chose it actually, but knew the bit around my thighs and bum would be a bit of a gamble. It has clever detail around the tummy area though, which seems to balance everything out.

Absolutely this.

I'm also an inverted triangle and actively like being a curve-free zone. The only problem I have is skirts hanging too low at the back because they've been cut to go over a bum! I agree the top of it is a good cut for an inverted triangle.

KnitFastDieWarm · 11/04/2024 17:39

The nice thing about a dress like this is that it flatters both curvy and slimmer
bodies. It’s a stunning dress - wear it with pride!

5128gap · 11/04/2024 17:46

You could try bum lift non padded shape wear. No extra obvious bulk, but what you do have hoiked up higher.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/04/2024 17:50

Now I'm tempted to buy the black for a gala I'm going to.

Thanks, OP!

LadyPancake · 11/04/2024 20:18

@WeRateSquirrels good to meet a fellow triangle! Apparently our shape is pretty rare. Only 5% of women have it. I do have curves, but sort of higher up 😂

@5128gap Do you have any recommendations/links?

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee they have it in black?!.....

I got some from Amazon they have lots of different styles if you just search bum/butt lift underwear. They're only around £12 so not a huge investment if you don't like them.
