Toes in or out? Nail varnish dilemma.

I need a pair of shoes to take me through spring and summer.

I prefer toes in, but how do I stop them rubbing the nail varnish off when I wear them? (The assumption being that you don't wear socks with summer shoes).

use a topcoat
several if necc

what kind of sjhoes? canvas ballet pumps (think converse meets rocket dog) are good for casual

PeggySioux · 29/03/2008 19:20

Maybe I have very sticky-uppy toenails. Topcoat doesn't work (though I could always try a few more layers).

I wonder if sticking a felt square inside the shoe and above my toenails would work?

Haven't decided what yet. I had some rather ugly but fabulously practical and comfortable shoes a bit like this but in pretty colours. I suppose a prettier version of that would be nice. If it exists!

i think your toenails may be too long.

PeggySioux · 29/03/2008 19:38

Nooooo! Very short. Honest. You can see toe above the end of the nail.

(Am sensing that I have somehow freakish toenails and have unwittingly revealed this to the www)

ballet pumps, then flip flops

warthog · 29/03/2008 19:40

i have same problem... never solved it.

fishie · 29/03/2008 19:53

i have similar prob which is why i think they're too long. when i am brutal with mine it doesn't happen. and i do keep them painted all year round so boots and socks. larger shoes?

PeggySioux · 29/03/2008 19:56

Boots and socks are no problem. It's a summer issue because then I wear shoes without socks and - poof - no varnish. And it's in summer that you might well be wearing flip flops or kicking your shoes off in the park the following day, so doubly important to have nice nails.

Hooray! Warthog has freakish toenails too. I'm not alone.

i meant i have painted toes with boots in winter. i redo about once every two weeks in winter, weekly (or more often if wearing off) in summer. maybe you aren't putting enough coats on, or expecting it to last longer than is reasonable?

fishie · 29/03/2008 20:00

oh i see. no socks don't make any difference to rubbing off or not.

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2008 20:02

Undercaot, two layers of varnish, adn a top coat. Surely that would last a week?
