Seeking the perfect leather blazer - what do you think

I have a tendency to sometimes focus on something missing in my wardrobe, thinking that it will be life changing! Not quite, but you know what I mean…

Currently I am thinking that a leather blazer will be perfect for going into work and weekend wear. I have a really nice plain biker style leather jacket but don’t wear it that it that much as it’s quite fitted and I can’t really fit much more than a very fine jumper or T-shirt under it. So thinking about something a bit more roomy but not huge.

has anyone bought anything like that recently?

the only one I have found is sosander one but it looks very form fitting (and it’s hard to look past the shocking styling)

I can't help with an actual link but I bought an oversized faux black leather blazer about 3 years ago from River Island and have worn it to death. It's surprisingly warm so it gets worn in winter layered over a hoodie or shacket and until the proper warm weather arrives. It's one of my favourite items of clothing!

Thanks @Puppylucky i actually really like that one. Good to know that it can be a useful wardrobe staple.

yes - the one I linked to looks a bit dated and very fitted.

Thanks @lookwhatyoudidthere I like that one too. Might need to order both and compare.

The jigsaw one looks roomy enough to get knitwear under. The Sosander definitely more streamlined.

poppyslashtulip · 06/04/2024 19:55

The jigsaw one looks lush.

I don’t like the way they’ve styled the sosander one, looks too small for the model and generally quite cheap. It could be lovely in reality though (in the right size!).

Notcontent · 06/04/2024 19:55

@Wellshellsbells i hope I can avoid looking like that!! 😆

@poppyslashtulip i agree with you - it might actually be nice - but the styling is so wrong! I have been seeing a lot of stuff from this brand (John Lewis stocks it too) and reading up about it, it sounds like it’s aimed at my age group but it’s not really calling out to me…

I agree about the terrible styling of the Sosander model, but I really wouldn't want to spend £365 on the Whistles one when that style might be out of fashion pretty soon and look really out of place. I think the cut of the Sosander one is less fashionable, more timeless and will last longer as a result. It can be styled completely differently from the model.

That's just me being poor though 😂

A bit shorter than a real blazer is better I think. It will not be worn fastened most of the time.
Lovejoy had one. IYKWIM.

I’d go more for a biker style if you want leather. John Lewis has a nice one that ‘does my bum look 40’ aka Kat farmer is currently touting (and she wears it well). Or you could do a vinted trawl and pick one up for 30/40 quid.

CountFucula · 06/04/2024 22:32

You will definitely find a good one of these vintage. EBay I’d say will be a good bet, cheaper more ethical and I’d bet more stylish too as it’s such a classic cut.

Ugh no. Not biker. It's too much a look that makes everyone look older. Probably because older women who want to look younger wear them thinking it makes them look young but it has the opposite effect. Just too dated.

Notcontent · 06/04/2024 23:17

I have actually been keeping an eye out on Vinted!

I do love a biker jacket but they are just everywhere…

Oh really. Im closer to 50 than 40 and just dug mine out. I had no idea they were so old hat.

the leather blazer ones look old fashioned to me - something Paul Nicolas might have worn in an 80s sit com.

oh fashion is a funny thing! :)

TallRoses · 06/04/2024 23:59

Biker jackets are in all the shops so can’t be that dated.

Notcontent · 07/04/2024 09:47

Fashion is such a minefield!

I don’t think the allsaints one is for me as it looks a bit more of a “going out” blazer where as I want something a bit more casual.

Will report back!

I think the oversized cut avoids the Tony Soprano effect personally! Agree that buying thru Vinted / eBay is a good way to experiment, although true vintage isn't the way to go, I don't think, as the cut will be slightly different/ dated. I wouldn't call the Mango one vintage though - that's from last season!

Notcontent · 07/04/2024 10:30

@Puppylucky i also have this theory that once you get a bit older it’s more difficult to look good in vintage items - I think some people can pull it off but otherwise it can look a bit “I have had this in my wardrobe for 40 years and I am still wearing it”. Whereas if an 18 year old wears a vintage jacket, it’s very clearly a fashion choice.

Yup totally agree @Notcontent
