Ladies who lunch ... or bot!

I always thought that when I grew up I would be successful, glamorous and independent- think businesswoman, sports car, designer clothes, time for lunching and utterly groomed at all times.

The reality is that I am middle aged, a bit fatter than I would like, doing a normal job and getting stuck in with lots of jobs in the house and, more often, garden. I'm the main earner and in control of most things.

My hair is usually frizzy, nails are bitten or very short, scruffy clothes, the total opposite of what I think I should be in my head. AND I DON'T MIND A BIT!

How did you turn out?!

I didn’t have the interesting career I had hoped for but I got a great husband later in life and financial stability. I try to balance my daily scruffiness by glamming up on holidays - feet, hair and eyebrows.

When I was younger I thought I’d be Crystal Carrington out of Dynasty as an older woman. Glamorous, serene, rich.

Instead I’m a fat irritable menopausal woman to be found mostly in Tesco food shopping ‘for bits’ and wearing faded leggings.

…Ah who has time for all that flicky hair and nail polish anyway…
