Prom outfit ideas for dress hater

Can anyone post any links to what their year 11 daughter wore/ will be wearing to their prom if they are a dress / skirt hater? She doesn't want anything too tight or feminine, or anything that will draw too much attention. Thanks.

Mine wore a trouser suit.

lookingforanewjob23 · 04/04/2024 19:48

What about a nice jumpsuit?

Frumpylab · 05/04/2024 12:04

It's quite hard to find anything that appeals to her. She doesn't like anything too feminine but equally doesn't want to look like a boy (she has short hair and won't be wearing any makeup/ feminine jewellery ). She has said no to all trouser suit options so far!

Jumpsuits or playsuits! There are lots of different styles. Just avoid the really casual ones.

Trousers and top?

Op, what does she like to wear, colours etc?

tattychicken · 05/04/2024 14:35

Wide leg trousers and a fitted top. Anything goes these days at a prom.

She is a typical hoodie and oversized baggy jeans girl. Most of her clothes are mens..I think if I helped her find something slightly alternative/grungey that might work. It's it more than not wanting a skirt/dress , she really doesn't like feminine stuff. But I think she also doesn't want a boys suit type outfit. What do boys wear to proms these days?

She might want to look at Billie Eilish and her early red carpet looks for inspiration?

Also Tilda Swinton has some great androgynous looks but might be a bit old as a style ref for a teen!

My daughter is a jeans / combat / hoodie girl.

She got a really really simple but beautiful navy / midnight blue ankle length satin dress with a draped front / back from Fenwicks and wore it with patent docs and silver jewellery.

This is it.

Would she like a more relaxed fit jumpsuit? If you look on ASOS (for example) search for 'wide leg jumpsuits.' Boys wear suits.

Sorry for the awful link Blush

Howmanysleepsnow · 05/04/2024 21:23

Mine went for a dress, but day to day lives in hoodies and combat pants, so my suggestion is satin wide legged combat pants with a top (loose and satiny or more fitted)

hohohowheniscmascoming · 05/04/2024 21:29

Suggest a trouser suit in a colour other than black. Mango?

hohohowheniscmascoming · 05/04/2024 21:35

Or a maxi satin skirt and a shirt?

BamberGirl · 05/04/2024 21:43

My sons friend wore this… I thought it was stunning and better than a dress!
I’ve cropped the photo from a group one so it’s not the best sorry

Lots of girls wore trouser suits at my dds’ proms. In fact it was quite a diverse collection of outfits as an inner city comp. They all looked fab. Some of the emo girls wore tartan type skate dresses and high boots. Or how about a plain black maxi tube dress?

Screamingabdabz · 05/04/2024 21:46

The other thing is just a plain waistcoat over wide leg trousers. The waistcoat on its own is very ‘in’ at the moment.

It doesn't

Have a look at Disturbia

She could pop a vest top under this if it's too low.

Very subtle one (but maybe too casual)
