Fed Up Looking for a Wedding Dress

Drama queen. Nothing fits me. The budget permit high street up to £500. I don’t know anyone reliable to alter. Lots of cuts and hems are not adjustable, and I am short pear shape with no bust, 45 yo. I have spent weeks ordering and returning from Whistles, Coast, Monsoon, Self Portrait, Phase Eight. I have also no one to try things on with, so it’s a battle with zip and buttons on my own.

All the fun is gone and I have lost interest in it all. Now what?

Can you describe the type of dress you’re after?

Don't expect it to fit off the peg, alterations can do wonders, also worth trying independent bridal shops or even prom dress type places. What kind of style are you looking for?

Have you tried a wedding dress shop? You could try some on somewhere like wed2be and then find the design online for cheaper. Their dresses are around £700 new and loads for sale second hand barely worn.

As a fellow small-busted woman, I've found stick on bra things like boomba which add on a cup size or two can make a big difference to the look and fit of a dress.

If you can get the bust to fit a bit better then hem shortening is a pretty easy alteration to get done.

Dresses with a tie-back waist can change the look/shape without alteration as well.

Alternatively, have you considered a trouser suit for a modern day look and take it to a tailors for alterations?

Where do you live? I bet there's lots of people here that would be delighted to go wedding dress shopping with you!

Look at Chesca. They do a lovely range of wedding dresses. And I find they're actually cut for plus size wear, I've not had a duff outfit from there.
