Hair won’t hold any curl/wave

I have a short, asymmetric bob at the moment. My hair is naturally very straight. I’ve tried curling it myself many times and it drops within the hour.
had it done at the hairdressers today thinking it was clearly my amateur attempts that were failing me.
nope! My hair, an hour later, is flat and lifeless.
any tips on products, tools I can use?

Perm

Waveless · 28/03/2024 16:26

I did consider this, but I had a perm in my food and looked a bugger!

Have it in your hair not your food.

The things that suck your hair in to curl work on my hair which is exactly as you describe. I’ve got a Curl Secret by Babyliss.

I thought it was a typo for 'foof' Grin

Would it be too disappointing to embrace your natural hair and style it the way it naturally goes?

It’s been straight for 43 years. I’d like to change it up once in a while

@dudsville , my thought too. I wear mine naturally and don't fear humidity.
A friend has poker straight SE Asian hair and she has it permed into loose waves.

Dollenganger333 · 28/03/2024 17:47

I have the same problem. I've never been able to get much volume in my hair.

EasterBunnny · 28/03/2024 17:48

Have you tried using curlers that suck up your hair the day after you’ve washed it? Then put your head upside down, hair spraying it, after this play around with the curls/waves to get them how you want.
If this doesn’t work for you it may for other readers. I have super soft hair that didn’t use to hold curls, now I get curls that last for two days.

Justkoko · 28/03/2024 17:51

Can someone tell me more about these perms that put volume/wave into your hair? I only remember 80s perms!

goingdownfighting · 28/03/2024 17:53

I have this type of hair.

I've had a balayage and my hair hold a curl as it's now bleached and a bit coarse. It's high maintenance though as you have to take care of it to look healthy and expensive
