Packing for UK (cold, wet) holiday

I am flying to NI for a week at the weekend to visit family. I think it will be mainly cold and wet. I will be staying in the city and not doing any outdoorsy things.

I'm bringing my winter coat and boots definitely. But what else? I mainly wear jeans when I'm not at work, unless it's BOILING hot, in which case I wear a dress. Do you reckon a few pairs of jeans and jumpers will do? I don't need to be dressed up for an average night out for drinks in Belfast do I? I used to live there but I know it's all changed a lot! I live just outside London now and it used to be that London was more casual than Belfast but honestly don't know anymore.

I'm also off to NI in a few days. I'm planning on taking jeans and jumpers for day and some blouses to wear with the jeans in the evenings. Boots.

Really struggling to decide on which coat to wear though - it was freezing in Birmingham today, but it also feels odd to be wearing a big winter coat in late March/early April.

See you there @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Wink

I am also thinking jeans are going to be the thing to bring. It isn't going to be warm enough for me to wear dresses. I might just bring one in case.

With a heavy heart I've decided to pack my big winter coat.

I might take one dress with a long sleeved T-shirt to layer under it.

And it pains me to say it, but I think you’re right about the coat.

Live in NI and still wearing my slightly lighter winter coats and jumpers but no scarf.
If you are not doing outdoorsy things I’d probably wear a slightly lighter top with an open coat, as it’s milder when you are around the city centre. Generally places are casual, so you won’t need dressy clothes- so jeans or a dress with tights would be the thing.

Have a good visit!

Thanks @Strongamericanonosugar 😊

I am really excited to be going back. Don't really care about the weather, (if I wanted a hot weather holiday, I'd go somewhere else), but equally want to stay as warm as possible without looking weird walking round town in my big puffy coat! Tricky

I’m out in Birmingham today. It was freezing this morning so I’m wearing my duvet coat, but I’m now too hot. So hard to get it right!

It is really hard! I think I'm going to bring my lighter winter coat. It isn't waterproof (wool coat type thing) but I'll bring an umbrella and maybe a pack a mac thing as well in case we venture somewhere outdoorsy with the kids. My duvet coat isn't waterproof tbh, so better for very cold, drier weather I think.

I’m off to Wales now and have packed the following
2 pairs jeans. One straight frayed the other bootleg
Pleather leggings black
2 black jumpers / - 1 deep plunge wrap style and the other sweetheart neckline peplum style
Warm cream cable wrap jumper
One nice “going out” mesh black top
Khaki green oversized blazer
1 black oversized puffer style coat with hood
Black leather MJ Hillier Hobo bag
Black trainers
Black combat boots
Black mid heel sock boot
Cream check oversized wool overcoat

Quite a lot for 4 days but I can’t stand being cold!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2024 15:46

I'm not taking any heels. Will probably just wear DMs and pack black trainers.

So far I'm thinking -
jeans
grey flannel trousers
black jumper
grey jumper
blouse
jumper dress
black knit skirt that can be worn with the blouse or either of the jumpers

I think I'll wear my duvet coat and pack a raincoat.

I'm there for ten days, so I've packed a massive case! I swear if it gets lost I might cry 😂

Including what I'm wearing on the flight I've packed:

Bootcut jeans, straight leg jeans, mom jeans (all blue)
6 x long sleeved tops
5 x jumpers
2 x thermal vests (overkill?)
Black jumpsuit
Black Chelsea boots
White trainers
Raincoat
Wool coat
Scarf
