I have ordered this Friends Like These dress online, and if it suits me, i'm wondering how best to style it for a fairly low-key summer wedding. Would a cream blazer work? I'd prefer closed shoes than sandals, any ideas there?

I'm clueless about style and would love any advice please!

I think I’d go for navy or pure white rather than cream, I’m not sure cream would work with that emerald shade. Another cool, bright, block colour could look lovely- purple or magenta.

I really like the idea of purple or magenta, @LoobyDop, thank you!

I'm quite sure if I go for pure white, I will be covered in stains before I even get out of my house!

I love that colour!

I wouldn't bother with a jacket if it's low key and summer (yes of course I know about British summers - I've lived through enough of them - but I'm an eternal optimist).

If it looks chilly, I'd go with a wrap. A proper pashmina will fold small enough to go in a handbag or you can tie it round the strap.

Thanks @CharlotteStreetW1 I'll have a Google of pashminas and see if I can find some inspo

I'd go for gold shoes. Beautiful dress!

Telomeres · 20/03/2024 21:00

I think a blazer would put it firmly in the workwear camp tbh.

SleepDeprivationIsAFormOfTorture · 20/03/2024 21:24

@blitzen thanks, I wouldn't have thought of gold
@Telomeres do you think a pashmina would be better for a wedding then? Or is the dress not right for a wedding at all?

Honesty I think it's more office wear than wedding, but I'm sure you can make it fancy! Lovely jewelled sandals and fancy pashmina?

I wouldn't bother with a jacket either. If it's wet or cold wear any reasonably smartish outer layer you already have. You'll only need it to get to the venue.

So far as it looking like office wear, well yes you could wear that to an office and it wouldn't look out of place but equally you could wear it to a wedding and it wouldn't look out of place.

I'm not a Megan fan but a good litmus test for "can I wear this to a wedding" is "did anyone wear similar at Megan's?"

Here's Eugenie in a dress you can wear to an office and a wedding. Eugenie wasn't the only one

@Telomeres I see what you mean about office type wear. But, I work in a setting where people mostly wear jeans and trainers, and I think that will be true for a lot of the guests, so what some people think of as their work uniform will be much more formal for me.

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle That's a very interesting litmus test! Thank you for the link! I am thinking a pashmina might be the way to go
