What is the difference between Tapered and Cigarette trousers?

Was looking at photos of Audrey Hepburn's classic cigarette trouser outfits and got me wondering what the difference is.

Are Tapered trousers wider at the hip and become more fitted as go down and cigarette is the opposite? I always thought they were called cigarette as they're skinny 😂

Cigarette are completely straight, like a cigarette. Tapered, well, taper in at the bottom slightly!

Thank you! That's what I actually thought initially but got myself confused when reading stuff on Pinterest etc. One of the articles said they were called cigarette trousers because they had pockets for packs of cigarettes!

I know there is no point really to this post just I really like that Audrey Hepburn trousers and loafers syle! I have a few pairs or Tapered trousers myself.
