Beach holiday clothes nearly 50!

namechanger4097 · 12/03/2024 09:06

I’m going on a beach holiday. All of my “hot holiday” clothes are slightly small t shirts/vests and short shorts, seafolly bikinis and kaftan-y things from a million years ago when I was mid 30’s, a size 8 and more solvent 🫤 I’m going with some friends and kids to a nice Balearic resort, nothing schamcy, but I need to update my wardrobe a bit. What mid range/bargain shops should I target or brands should I go for on Vinted? What do the middle aged wannabes stylish wear on their holidays please? I am so stuck for inspiration. I’m size 10-12, white and pale skinned unless I go mad on a spray tan.

Well you are beautifully slim , so will look great in most things! H&M have lots of linen and cheaper linen blend loose trousers/ long shirts/cover ups/shorts etc at present as well as kaftans.

Ted baker beach cover ups are brilliant.
I own 2 and love them on the beach, to and from the hotel room and over my swimsuit for lunch. Just fab x

That’s kind thank you! I am putting my old shorts as a job lot on Vinted/charity shop and some longer/wider ones at H&M and a little basics shop there will be a start :)

I literally never think of Ted Baker, I always think they make dresses that look terrible on apple-shaped people but they seem to have really nice swimwear and cover ups now I’m looking so thank you!!

A trip to the Maxx is a good idea. I never look at next website either and I’ve just realised they sell Banana Republic now. I must not get distracted by browsing boring work tops as it’s safe and get back to the beach dress task in hand…

This is an excellent question and I'd love ti hear any recommendations too. . I'm exactly the same. I have the same "beach holiday" stuff from when I was much younger and slimmer.

I can't get on with the oversized shirt look and really don't know how to achieve a chic beach cover up look.

Watching with interest!

I'm mid 50s and my holiday attire is mostly linen trousers/shorts and vest topa from Next and H&M. I got some lovely linen shorts in Next yesterday - it was a bit of a shock seeing my white legs in them but they'll look better with a tan.

I'd go for a couple of good bathing suits, either one piece or two depending on how confident you are. I'm still wearing two piece at 62. Not skimpy string and triangle type, but I've ordered from Athleta and theirs are well structured and cover your bum. I'm not sure if they deliver to UK. Boden has some nice ones as well; I'm not crazy about their wild patterns, but some are solid.

I'd pack for a week:
two swimsuits, one cover up
two shorts, one a bit more structured for town or sightseeing
one skirt, can go sightseeing in day, or dressier in evening
two dresses
about 5 tops, mostly sleeveless, either tank or flowy, in colours that match with shorts and skirt
one light sweater for evenings and airplane.
flipflops for beach and pool
dressier but comfy sandals for town
one pair closed shoes for travel, they can be trainers or comfy enough if you go for a long walk
Throw in some evening jewellery to jazz up a plain dress or vest top.

have fun!

This list!! Thank you!! I am a bad packer. Some Boden prints are a bit scarily mumsy to me but their structure and quality are probably age and not too £££ appropriate - thanks.

Here you are, op. I get Next linen shorts every year. Very comfy, cool & flattering and theyre not 100% linen so just a quick iron or just dont bother! I wear them with vest tops or over my swimsuit.

https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU070592/N57332#N57332

I’ve ordered them and sent back the ones I ordered above because the ones I chose were too linen-y so these ones could be the answer 😊 thanks
