What time do you wake up to get ready?

I’m a mum of one and I feel like I need to get a better morning routine. I use to plan my outfit, do my hair and make up but now I just chuck something on and usually after I’ve got my daughter sorted. What’s your morning routine on a working day and non working day? I wonder if I’d be better getting up before my daughter?

On a non working day, I can (at the latest) be up 5 mins before I need to do the school run. Just enough time to wash my face and teeth and throw on my clothes. This is because the kids are older so I am not seen on the playground anymore lol!!

On a working day, I get up between 7.30 and 7.45 and leave the house at 8.30am to do the school run before work. I will have a shower, do my hair and make up on these days.

My kids are high school and college age tho.

If I had little ones, I would have my clothes out the night before and get up earlier than the kids to get ready tbh.

I get up at 6am and leave the house at 7.30 on working days. My best advice is to simplify - your wardrobe, your hair, your makeup. I stopped getting layers as I don't have the time to style my hair. Haven't worn foundation in a few years and keep makeup light and natural.

Also, lay out clothes and pack everyone's bags the night before, this saves a lot of time in the morning

Wash including hair, dress and out the door

Not sure how long but I just pull out whatever is in my wardrobe and wear that and I don't wear makeup

Working days I get up at 5am to quickly shower and dry hair before DS (age 3) wakes (usually about 5.30ish). I do my make up while he eats breakfast then get myself dressed while he plays (clothes sorted the night before). I then get him washed and dressed and we’re out the door at 7.15am for a 45min walk to nursery for his 8am start. I then have a further 30ish min walk to work.

Non-working days I usually wake up with him about 5.30am and we have a bit more of a leisurely morning getting ready then head out for whatever group we have on that day (toddlers/gymnastics etc). Usually leave the house between 8.30-9.30 depending on the group. About 30mins walk to most of them. I don’t usually bother much with make up on these days and go with a much more casual outfit that’s just thrown together!

When my kids were little and I worked full time I would get up at 6. Shower and wash hair every morning. Make lunch boxes and put a load of washing on and tumble dryer before the kids got up. Sometimes prepare dinner bits. Left house at 8.30 to drop them at school and go to work.

I set my alarm for 5:30 every week day, Cup of Tea and a Shower in peace before my DCs stir around 6/6:30.
Outfit is planned and put out the night before, Mine and theirs! At the Weekend I wait for the DCs to come upstairs but still get our Clothes for the Day ready the night before Smile

I get up at 5am but I love the peace and quiet first thing. I empty the dishwasher, unload and reload the washer and dryer and usually mop out the kitchen floor. Then at 5.20am I take a huge mug of tea and sit for 10 mins on sofa whilst doing a red LED mask.
5.30am. Shower - then bodycare/ gradual tan/skincare (think Korean so lots of products - it’s my thing, I love it).
Then at 6am, I wake my DDs and get them breakfast and sort fresh uniforms/ lay them out. Then I put the laundry away and usually do a chore like clean a bathroom or clean the fridge out or take out recycling etc.
6.30. Pilates for 15 minutes
6.45. Make cappuccino for myself and DH and then make my breakfast and lunch to take to work.
7am. Go and get ready - make-up, get dressed.
7.45. Leave for work dropping DDs at school bus stop on the way.

I take a long time but I like that I come home to a reasonably organised house at night - I have more energy in the morning to exercise/get chores done. Plus I’m happier now I have a system. I switched to full time work last year and I thought it was going to be the death of me but when I get home in the evening, I can mostly chill with my DDs as the majority of jobs are done already.

What age is your DD? Mine is 6. She gets up at 7:40. We eat breakfast together in bed watching Dora the explorer. At around 8:05 she goes off and gets washed, brushes her teeth and makes her bed. While she's doing that I get in the shower, brush my teeth and get dressed. I always leave her uniform out the night before. She gets dressed in the livingroom while I make the packed lunch, pack her school bag etc. I do her hair around 8.25. We leave at 8:40.
