What do people think of & Other Stories

I wondered what people think of the shop & Other Stories.

I always go in when I pass. I love the layout. I have bought jewellry and bags. But I find the clothes are either an odd fit on me, or are too 'out there' (e.g. massive statement frills).

About 10 years ago I got some nice summer tops from there, which I still wear. But have hardly bought anything since then.

The clothes I find a bit 'youthful Per Una', too many fussy details and synthetic fabrics. Love their cosmetics, candles etc. tho. I'm more of a Cos girl, I like things plain plain plain

Gibs0nGirl · 08/03/2024 11:40

Haha @DonnasShrugaleros that's exactly it!

I like the clothes but find it very expensive. I got some cotton summer tops and they look nice but they are not any thicker than tops from H&M ( same group in terms of H&M and Cos etc) I have liked bags in there but the quality doesn’t align with the price. I also have not liked the fact that things have been on sale online but full price in store but I am not sure if other shops do the same.

ColourByNumbers88 · 08/03/2024 20:56

To me it's lH&M quality at Cos prices.

Workingmytickettoparadise · 09/03/2024 11:35

I think that @ColourByNumbers88 has hit it on the head in many ways. The shops are set out lovely and appear very up market but I am sure that if you set that aside and went in to H&M you could find some bits with a similar vibe. I think that &Other Stories do a good job of curating the items in to stories so it’s easier to imagine pieces together compared to buying pieces from H&M.

My lbd is from there. It wasn't cheap even in the sale. Unfortunately I've lost a lot of weight since buying it so I think it's now too big, and the sizing was generous to start with

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/03/2024 17:06

Hit and miss. I've got some nice trousers and a wool blazer from there. It is expensive, but I find lots of places on the high street are now.

Clotheswoe · 09/03/2024 23:01

This is interesting.

Other Stories does seem to have a fairly big presence on the high street, but I've noticed that some of their shops have closed (I recently noticed the other stories on King's Road in London has closed).

I have actually also got two nice leather bags from there and some leather wallets. They've lasted really well. But the stuff they have at the moment seems less classic.

Terrible quality. I'm also not a fan of Cos or Arket.

Like a PP I have a great pair of jeans from there. And a necklace. But have tried on blouses and dresses and been disappointed.

Oanaelena11 · 11/01/2025 16:39

I recently bought an wool blend (90% wool, 10%nylon) long coat. The fit is great but the wool is extremely bad quality, especially for 300€. H&M, Zara and all the other brands wich are far more cheaper or at least “lower” than them have much better wool quality. Such a disappointment.

Workingmytickettoparadise · 11/01/2025 18:12

I got a nice merino wool cardigan in there recently which I love. I looked at one of the leather bags and wasn’t impressed in the quality at all.

GettingStuffed · 11/01/2025 20:52

I have a dress from there it's a mock wrap with a full skirt. TBH I've found loads like it but it's in a very interesting fabric, plain but has a sheen rather than the shine on satin.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/01/2025 20:56

I like it - and am also a fan of Arket and Cos. I find their trousers aren’t good on me, but I really like their knits, plain tees, and sunglasses. One of my favourite coats is from there, a bright orange puffer which gets loads of compliments from random people.

I’m 5ft 6 and a size 12.

wheresmyshoe · 11/01/2025 20:56

I admired it online but that admiration changed when I visited a shop. Once I got past them hanging visibly make up stained and tatty/dirty garments on the shop floor I had a good look at fabric and seams. It's disappointing, no more than H&M quality with extra embellishment and flourishes. I'd been excited about visiting the store but left empty handed.
