Dress for slim person

Macaronicheesey · 05/03/2024 14:14

I'm a size 8 and 5"2, so very slim but I do have a C cup bosom. I can't seem to find dresses that suit me these days, I love the loose flowy numbers on other people but they look ridiculous on my frame.
Looking for daytime dresses for spring summer, £40 max. I like materials like seersucker, linen, cheesecloth, thin denim. But open to anything. Mini or midi length I reckon. I'm 39 so something kind of age appropriate is needed but I tend to dress a bit younger than typical for someone of my age. Not the mumsy/frumpy look and nothing too girly please.

Ideas please.

Gosh, what a lot of trigger words you’ve somehow squeezed into one paragraph!

Macaronicheesey · 05/03/2024 15:02

???

Sorry that this has unintentionally caused offence. I have low confidence and I don't know what to wear to suit my body shape. Was trying to contain as much description as possible about my body shape and taste. If it makes you feel any better I have lots of stretch marks, saggy boobs, scars, cellulite. Don't actually mind any of those things and don't think they're relavent to my choice of dress but sharing now in case it had come across that I have a perfect body or something.
I will leave my post up but if I receive feedback that others feel triggered I can remove it.

No, no, nobody feels triggered. This board just doesn't like the words frumpy, mumsy, or references to being too old to wear anything.😁

I think your budget may be a problem because everything in natural fabrics tends to be expensive, sadly. I like all those materials and hate polyester, but can barely find anything under £50. Or semi-fitted. Do you like any of these? They probably would look good on petite women ( too short for me). https://www.weirdfish.co.uk/p/sale/womens?_gl=1euv0lx_up*MQ..&cat=dresses-58&gclid=CjwKCAiAopuvBhBCEiwAm8jaMXBFDSJh_LFvEHmphEBqmL_l0iwNIlq6pIXRdUAPkFyhcbcRJEDmcBoCGvkQAvD_BwE

Nothing to do with your ‘body shape’. It was simply that you described yourself by disparaging other women - which reads strangely on MN

DGPP · 05/03/2024 16:24

Boden has lots of dresses that would suit your frame, plenty in plain colours if the prints aren’t your thing

Macaronicheesey · 05/03/2024 16:28

Thank you, I do quite like some prints.

Not heard of Thought and the one pictured looks a good shape. Will have a proper look at their site later tonight.

Also don't mind polyester to be honest if the dress is a nice shape and style.

@DGPP The OP isn’t going to find a single Boden dress (at least in the Petite section) for £40 full price. Though of course she could wait for the sales or look for pre-owned Boden dresses.

Just looked at the Boden link; the sale is pretty good!

I'm 5'4 and a size 6-8 and get dresses from white fox

I'm 5" 5.5 and a size 6-8. I love the dresses DLSB. Nice light material, bright colours and certainly don't swamp my frame. Love that you can dress them up with heels or dress down with trainers.

Oh I love this dress! Might have to treat myself to one.

Readthestandingorder · 05/03/2024 18:43

I would look at Nobody's Child. Really flattering for larger busts but slim bodies.

Some of the other prints/colours are in the sale.
