Dress for a cocktail wedding

Hi, I’m struggling to find a dress to wear to an upcoming cocktail wedding. The venue is at a winery and it going to be a warm day (33 degrees). It’s as late afternoon/early evening ceremony followed by dinner and dancing.

which dress would you pick? I’m struggling as I have not found my style again after having my daughter as my body shape and weight is massively different! I feel horrible in them all!

The 3rd one is the most flattering but the first one also looks lovely for a summer cocktail vibe. I'd match it with bright shoes and a bag. I'm sorry the 2nd one you would boil in and it's not the right style for you.

A ‘cocktail wedding’? Confused

Are they getting married? If so, surely it’s ‘a wedding’? What makes these people so different that they need a special term for their marriage ceremony?

Anyway … Presumably it’s somewhere outside the UK? Which might have its own wedding guest outfit culture. If it were an English Summer wedding I’d feel your black dresses looked a little funereal. (Some black dresses can look cheerful!) Would it be possible to find something more colourful and celebratory?

If you must wear one of these, the shift dress is the more flattering, and ‘cocktail appropriate’. I’m afraid I agree the printed dress doesn’t seem right - very workaday.

I think the 1st or 3rd, the 2nd is something I'd wear to work. Jazz it up with sparkly accessories 😀

Tatonka · 03/03/2024 05:34

Actually probably the 1st, the 3rd is a bit like a work outfit too

LadyWithLapdog · 03/03/2024 06:05

First one with some brighter shoes, bag, hair clip.

WhatAMessAgain123 · 03/03/2024 06:13

Definitely avoid black. the first dress is the nicest style - does it come in any other colours?

LatteFlatte · 03/03/2024 06:30

First dress is the nicest, definitely not the patterned black and white one.

Yesssssssssss · 03/03/2024 06:31

I like no. 3. It's smart and chic and looks great- and I think black sounds perfectly acceptable for the type of occasion you have described.

usernother · 03/03/2024 06:32

The first one is the most flattering on you and will be the coolest to wear, but black is wrong for any wedding.

mitogoshi · 03/03/2024 06:34

None of them shout cocktail to me - are most the guests local? If so try to see what is usually worn at that venue. The dresses are all fine for a U.K. registry office or not so posh hotel/church but not specifically a smart one

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 03/03/2024 06:52

Had a a look at ASOS (Curve) but their current collection is rather drab. Possibly because it’s a bit early in the year for really summery clothes.

How much time do you have before the wedding, @NeedingAGoodNap? (And if you were to buy something new what sort of budget might you have in mind?)

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/03/2024 08:33

The second and the third look like formal office wear.

The first one probably fits the remit , but , and it's subjective of course, it's awful. If you like it, of the 3 it's the one that fits the remit.

Mairzydotes · 03/03/2024 08:36

The black shift dress looks the best for a formal occasion. It will look classy with some accessories. It's fine to wear black for a wedding if you were a lot of black anyway.

I like the patterned too, but for weekend wear with trainers but that's not answering your question here.

Frumpitydoo · 03/03/2024 08:47

Sorry, they're all nopes! Budget and size please and S&B will be on to it!

Goddessonahighway · 03/03/2024 08:51

I like first and third for the wedding. Very nice!

PerfectTravelTote · 03/03/2024 08:57

The shape of the third one really suits you but they all look a bit heavy and dark for 33 degrees.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 03/03/2024 09:06

I'm on the "not loving any of them" bandwagon too.

Is it an option to return those 3 & try something different??

StarlightLady · 03/03/2024 17:43

My preference is definitely the first.

The second is too busy in my view and the lines of the third don’t sit so well on you.

DesignForLife01 · 03/03/2024 18:56

No. 1

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 05/03/2024 04:08

Surely a premature petering out of such an intriguing thread?
