My jumpers are really itchy

I have two jumpers that are itchy. How can I make them less itchy?

What are they made out of? Distilled white vinegar added to a wash is supposed to soften but if you Google ‘how to make wool less itchy’ there are lots of recommendations, (if they are wool) have you washed them already?

Do they have any wool content? I can't wear anything with the tiniest percentage of wool, even if it seems soft to the touch.

yes one of them is 5% wool and the other is alpaca blend

I always generally wear a long sleeved T-shirt under a jumper. I think if it’s cold enough for a jumper, an extra layer is always helpful and it means I don’t need to wash them so regularly (unless I’ve been a plonker and spilled some food!)

I will try that thanks. Yes I have already washed them a couple of times but they are still really itchy

What do you wear under them? I love wool jumpers but rarely wear next to bare skin (other them merino base layers). Always a shirt or long sleeve top.

Jennalong · 01/03/2024 18:13

When I read an alpaca blend , I did an involuntary shudder !
I love the thought , but itch like I'm covered in insects when I try it on .

I don’t wear anything under them. I prefer not to wear a long sleeve top because it makes the jumper feel too tight.

Yes I bought it off the internet and I had no idea it would itch so much. Maybe I should stretch it and wear a long sleeve top under it.

Does anyone know which wool is not itchy?

OP posts:
Honeysucklerouge · 01/03/2024 18:18

I can only wear wool with a long sleeved cotton top underneath - hope you find another solution

Honeysucklerouge · 01/03/2024 18:20

The only wool top I’ve got that I can cope with next to my skin is a merino Uniqlo one

Jennalong · 01/03/2024 18:20

For me ( and everyone is different ) I can't wear any natural yarn .

thedevilinablackdress · 01/03/2024 18:56

I find merino to be the least itchy

itsnotmeitsu · 01/03/2024 19:59

If I'm wearing something with a woollen neck I put Lanacane anti-chafing cream on my neck. It helps.

Flockameanie · 01/03/2024 20:31

The only wool I can wear is fine merino or cashmere. Anything else is too itchy. Even then I can’t really have it right next to my skin and wear some sort of thin base layer eg the Uniqlo heat tech ones in winter or a thin cotton l/s t-shirt if it’s warmer.

User20202202002 · 01/03/2024 20:33

How can I stretch the alpaca jumper?

I can't wear any sort of wool. My skin hates it. I think you are just going to have to wear a long sleeved tee. It's a bloody nuisance!

MattDamon · 01/03/2024 20:56

I've never tried it but ironing it while it's inside out is supposed to help.

PlumPeony · 01/03/2024 21:00

Whether you can wear any jumpers with wool is very personal. I can't wear wool either, even 1%, all my jumpers/ cardigans are cotton (not easy to find nice cotton jumpers!)
