I’m booked in to one in a few weeks. I’ve had to book an appointment time, will I get the opportunity to try stuff on? Do you get a consultant happy to help or is more like you’re shopping at M&S and pick stuff off the rails?

I went to one but went with a plan and helpers! I researched the designers and looked at their last season’s dresses, printed off the ones I liked and sent friends off to find them! The sale was in a huge room with rows and rows of rails. I did try them on and got something absolutely beautiful that I would never have been able to afford otherwise. It was a bit of a mess when I bought it but paid £300 extra for the designer to fit it and sort out the problems- torn fabric etc.

Years ago, but they probably haven't changed much.
Embrace the madness.
Accept that you may not get the dress that catches your eye because someone else may nab it first.
Wear clothes that let you try the dresses over them, so you don't need to worry about changing rooms - I wore leggings and a vest top.

Can't help but think of that scene in Friends where Monica goes with the other two girls to some bridal outlet equipped with a whistle and has to get Phoebe to pin down on the ground another lady who wants to grab the dress she wants.

I have, and it's where I got mine from. Was appointment only, one bride at a time and had around an hour per appointment I think. Ended up getting a Stella York dress rrp £1700 for £350
