Sports leggings for larger lady!

doubleshift · 25/02/2024 14:36

I've started going to a gym and some classes. Circuits and Pilates and run on treadmill. My sports leggings are crap - fat bulge over the waistband, they fall down when we do things like skipping or burpees, cheap and nasty.

I want to invest in a set or two if quality gear that looks good (as far as possible on flabby size 16/18)
Do makes like Lulu lemon or sweaty Betty or similar makes clothes for fat girls?
Can anyone recommend?

I rate matalan leggings. Cheap but good

MsMartini · 25/02/2024 14:50

Good for you - I hope you are enjoying your classes 😀.

I love my SB Powers (bought in sales on BNWT on Vinted or ebay) and they stay in place really well (without being so hard to get on and off that that is a workout in itself) and come in a range of sizes (but I would try to get to a shop to find out best fit for you and then be ready) and wear them loads. But if you want something that is decent quality but a bit cheaper for now, to see what works (pockets, length etc) and also in case you change shape, maybe try Decathlon? Their running range is Kalenji and their gym range Domyos. I would say SB come up slightly big and Decathlon slightly small but others may disagree.

I like some sweaty betty leggings but material an be different between colours. I personally prefer Nike leggings for gym.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 25/02/2024 14:57

I find the Nike ones just don't last in comparison to LuLu. They lose their elasticity etc. I've had some of my Lulu's for over 9 years and they are still going strong and are not see-through either

Welshcake15 · 25/02/2024 14:57

Gap sports leggings are great and actually stay up!

Workingmytickettoparadise · 25/02/2024 14:58

You could try Good Move by M&S. I bought some Lululemon second hand and I think they are by far my favourite in comparison to my Primark ones. I think that after the Lulus my favourites have to be H&M and Good Move ones all which I have bought second hand.

idontlikealdi · 25/02/2024 15:03

Fabletics. Get the offer and then cancel. Best leggings I've had, totally squat proof, high waisted, pockets, don't budge.

dreamingofsun · 25/02/2024 15:15

do you think your shape may change as a result of more exercise? In which case i wouldnt fork out lots of money for sweaty betty, i'd be going for something cheaper like goodmove from M&S

claracluck1978 · 25/02/2024 15:24

I'm a bit bigger than you & I wear Under Armour leggings

doubleshift · 25/02/2024 15:47

Thanks. I've got karrimor at the moment and they are just awful and it makes me feel even more embarrassed

m&S good move range are really quality, thick fabric that’s squat proof and a nice high waist.
if you don’t mind patterns then Flanci or Tikiboo.

doubleshift · 25/02/2024 16:21

What's the sizing like on some
If these brands?. They're not cheap even second hand so I'd want to get it right.

OP posts:
NotFastButFurious · 25/02/2024 16:39

M&S true to size - I wear the same as in normal trousers (12)
flanci are generous - I wear a small in their stuff.
i haven’t had tikiboo for a while but their sizing got a bit haphazard between small and medium.
SB I think I’d be a medium (only bought a pair in the sale once and sent them back as I didn’t like the fabric)

Workingmytickettoparadise · 25/02/2024 16:44

If you decide to buy Lululemon then they have a section on their website called We Made Too Much or something like that where you can find things cheaper. There is a shop in Edinburgh where ( or at least there was when I went on a visit a while back) a sale section in the bottom of the shop.

Great you're doing that. Of course there are good quality leggings for you lulu with pockets these are my favourite. Though there is also a dupe that my DD has, she loves them Dupe but very good according to DD

Personally, I don't like Sweaty Beatty, They feel very plastic-like to me.

I bought those dupes this week. They're crap - have holes in the bottom of the pockets so my phone ends up around my calves!

They're comfy for around the house but not a patch on more expensive versions. I wonder whether your DD just lucky with hers!

lemonyfox · 25/02/2024 16:53

Gym Shark! I'm a 20 and I buy their XL gym leggings or XXL depending on whatever sale and stock they have in. They're expensive but they do sales often so I always wait for then.

helpfulperson · 25/02/2024 16:54

I have fabby size 20 running tights from decathlon.

Iwant2beJessicaFletcher · 25/02/2024 17:13

M&S good move are the best ones. These high waisted ones are brilliant for keeping you all in! They are true to size, wash well & last ages.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/02/2024 19:18

I really like SB powers. They hold my wobbly bits in!

AmeliaSmallhope · 25/02/2024 19:23

Another vote for the M&S good move range.

I’m around a 20-22 and wear the same size as in M&S’s normal trousers.

doubleshift · 26/02/2024 19:49

All so helpful. Thank you. 🙏

size 16-18 here

sb power I love them. I got an xl in 2021. I have just returned 2 power xl as they felt tight.

lululemon are my new fav. I get size 14. Wunder under train or something like that I love them. The other ones are nice as well (the ones for yoga) but are two layers so much warmer

my pt wears over active or something like that. They also do big sizes but I’m not too keen on them

Drbrowns · 26/02/2024 22:22

Both sweaty Betty and lululemon do plus. I’m a 20 and wear xxl in sweaty Betty. Always go for the power as they don’t roll or drag which would drive me mad when running. Got a pair of lululemon in the Xmas sale but don’t like as much as they don’t suck me in as much.
