Teenage son-dandruff

Evening all

For a while The Body Shop’s ginger shampoo was doing the trick but the effects seem to be waning.

He’s 14 & becoming more self conscious about the dandruff flakes on his (black 😬) school jumper.

Any shampoo/scalp recommendations?

Thank you

I too use the ginger shampoo but alternate it with Philip Kingsley dry scalp one from M&S.

Nizoral has been great for my DD. I think I saw it recommended on MN.

Nizoral worked wonders on mine- I use it whenever my scalp feels itchy/irritated, but it's hardly ever flakey now.

It all depends on why he's getting it as some dandruff is caused by a fungal infection.

Firstly - have you tried Head & Shoulders, it's very good. If his scalp is very dry then massage conditioner into his scalp rather than hair, and don't use a hairdryer.
Secondly - use something with coal tar in, eg T-gel or Nizoral.
Thirdly - go to GP as he might need an anti fungal shampoo.

Thank you all.

Weirdly his scalp/head never seems itchy. Is that normal?

Try a scalp scrubber too as he may well be washing ineffectively. I like Nizoral or the sensitive T-gel shampoo. You have to follow the instructions though on how long to leave them on the head before rinsing.

Nothing touched my DD's dandruff, the Dr prescribed her Capasan shampoo which has really helped, you can buy it over the counter without prescription. She also had some coal tar ointment which helped as well
Make sure he's rinsing his hair really well too as this can be a cause.

He needs Nizoral (bought over the counter from pharmacies) and a shampoo brush, like this one from amazon

The only shampoo that has worked for me (pretty much from the first use) is Vichy Dercos anti dandruff.I lather and rinse twice, the first latherI use a scalp scrubber, the second one I lather well and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing. You can buy it from Boots or Amazon.
