Hi all
Started on 0.025 6 months ago all fine
Upped to 0.05 couple of months ago
Again doesn't seem to be any issues. Skin tolerance is good
Have a chance for a friend to get me some 0.1 from Spain. Do you think it's worth me going ahead?
Thanks in advance!

0.1 really is for people with acne, if you're just using it for anti ageing it's not worth it. Research has shown it's not the strength that makes tretinoin effective (for anti ageing) but the regularity with which you use it.

Added to that, 0.1 is often also in a gel form (as it's meant for acne sufferers) and that's a much more direct delivery system that tends to be more irritating. It really isn't worth the extra grief for essentially the same outcome or lesser results because you struggle to use it with the same frequency.

Oh no I'm just about to come to the end of my 0.5 retirides and start in the 1 retirides

I'll let you if I remember if my face falls off. So far the 0.5 has had excellent results for me

I have another 0.5 tube I revert to if need be or I'll sandwich the 1 % between moisturisers or something

I wouldn’t if you’re using it ‘just because’ and not for acne or hyperpigmentation. As with a lot of things I believe that the lowest effective dose is best when it comes to tretinoin.

How often are you all using it out of interest?
I'm struggling with more than x2 weekly at 0.05.
Wondering if it will still be effective.

I was going to say something similar. It’s better to stick with a lower dose that you can use regularly. I found when I went up to 0.1, it was so much more irritating that I just wasn’t able to use it. I was using it once or twice a week and my skin was really irritated. I went back to 0.05 which I use most days and my skin looks much better for it.

Are you using a barrier before you put it on? When I started using tret, I put a bland moisturiser on first, then the tret, and that allowed me to build up to using it most days. I don’t need to put a moisturiser on first anymore, but it does help when you’re getting started.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 22/02/2024 09:19

I usually put it on then use moisturiser about 30mins later. I switched to a gentle cleanser and moisturiser with ceramides which I use twice a day.
I don't get redness or irritation any more but I find that if I use it more than twice a week my skin peels and my makeup looks awful!

Easily 5 times a week for 0.025 if I remember and no irritation

Four times week for 0.05 also seems fine

I'm pretty sure studies have shown that you don't get better results from going up to a 0.1% solution compared to 0.05%. Results are faster, but it's more irritating to skin, and you'll get the same outcome with the weaker cream, just over a longer time.

Interesting comments thanks all!
