How old is this bride?

I'm thinking of wearing this for my wedding. My friend think it ages me considerably. Wedding is informal and low key. How old would you think the bride would be wearing this?

Late 30s- tall and willowy

Luckingfovely · 11/02/2024 21:17

Honestly, it could be anything from 18 and hippy, to 80 and covering their arms.

Is it your style? Do you love it? And is this friend really a friend or just imposing their taste on you?

RubiesandRose · 11/02/2024 21:21

Its got a lovely boho look and suitable for all ages. I wouldn't associate it with any particular age.

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:22

I'm 37 and 5'9. Not willowy. A size 14 with a smallish bust, chubbier than I'd like hourglass shape. Wedding is going to be a small ceremony. I do like the dress. I think it looks good on. There is a dress I love but it is £1800 starting price. I just can't justify the cost.

Yep, not so much an age thing, per se, as much as a 'figure' one. You would have to be tall and willowy to wear it (and slim) IMO.

Also, I wouldn't imagine any woman under 35 wearing it, as it's a teeny bit frumpy (JMO.)

I think most shorter women - 5 ft 6 and under would look a bit dumpy in this.

Personally I wouldn't wear it. (I am 5 ft 4 and curvy size 16.) Even if I were 2 stone lighter I still wouldn't, as I am a bit short.)

YOU are 5 ft 9 @CinnamonTree so you will probably look OK in it. Smile

MissRheingold · 11/02/2024 21:24

On the day you will be moving around and your hair and make up will be done so you will look like a bride as opposed to trying it on and it looking out of place hence your friend saying it makes you look old.

You have the right height for it.

ElizabethCage · 11/02/2024 21:24

I love it and would think the bride would be in her 20s but I think it could suit most people

TheLongpigs · 11/02/2024 21:26

I love it too!

PurplePansy05 · 11/02/2024 21:26

Suits all ages. Beautiful dress. Congratulations, OP.

Allthatglittersisntart · 11/02/2024 21:26

I think it’s lovely and ageless. Wear what you feel good in and don’t worry about clothes aging you when you are only 37!

Pixiesgirl · 11/02/2024 21:27

I would have said 34, but who knows.

Ulysees · 11/02/2024 21:29

I love it. What are you doing with your hair? Maybe do your hair and makeup and try it on again. Get pics taken. Show us! 😉👰‍♂️ You're tall enough for it.

If your boobs need help wear a push up bra.

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:30

Thank you 😊 @SweetBirdsong

Why is it so hard to find a dress. I feel like it should be bloody easy. They are all beautiful. I just feel a full on dress is too much. We're hoping for a meal in a pub later. I can be quite eclectic in my style, although now I'm fatter and have a child much less so.

informal and low-key and a £2k wedding dress don’t really add up for me. Use that money to pay for a honeymoon or something that will be more than a few hours of use…

RogueFemale · 11/02/2024 21:32

I don't think it flatters the model, even. Wouldn't suit anyone with a fuller bust.

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:32

@Ulysees I'll put it on tomorrow and post a pic as the lighting in our bedroom is terrible. I have shoulder length dark brown hair. I was going to have it down with loose waves. Simple drop earrings. No necklace because of the cut. Thinking wedge sandals.

GettingStuffed · 11/02/2024 21:34

I'd say in her 40s

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:34

@fourelementary that's my thoughts exactly. If I could rent it I would absolutely do that. But I have not found it for rental. But £2k is just ridiculous for the type of wedding we want.

@CinnamonTree sounds fab. I'll come and do your hair 😁 I'm qualified just work a different job now.

I bought my dress for £99 off eBay. Was a monsoon one. We married in a registry office.

bryceQ · 11/02/2024 21:36

I think someone young would wear this going for a more vintage feel.

blooblom · 11/02/2024 21:37

I agree it needs someone 'willowy'. It's the neckline. It's lovely apart from that. Though the stark white does make it look a little cheap to.

OhVienna24 · 11/02/2024 21:40

I think it could be any age, even much older like 50s for a second wedding. It would suit someone with a glamorous style.

Logically4 · 11/02/2024 21:40

My first thought is, who cares?

I don’t look at a bride and wonder her exact age. You’ll generally look the same age as you did the day before! Wear what makes you comfortable and confident

my second thoughts are I’d assume the bride doesn’t want her arms or back on show (possible insecurity?) plus with the waistline, I’d wonder if the dress is to hide the figure?

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:41

@Ulysees if you're near West Sussex I'd be delighted. How's your make up skills. I'm rubbish at that too 🤣

@blooblom it is cheap haha. I know what you're saying. Wedding dress shopping is so bloody hard. I think finding a house is easier!

We're doing ceremony, drinks/nibbles, pub dinner, mini bus home for guests, us to a fancy hotel. That's all we want. Probably a max of 15 guests.
