How old is this bride?

I'm thinking of wearing this for my wedding. My friend think it ages me considerably. Wedding is informal and low key. How old would you think the bride would be wearing this?

I’m glad that dress is going back. It swamps you @CinnamonTree and the embellishment across the stomach is not well placed, design wise.

If you like lace, but it’s a small wedding followed by the pub, how about shorter?

You could wear some really gorgeous shoes to best effect.

Bumblebee413 · 12/02/2024 22:22

You look absolutely beautiful in your photo xxx

Nantescalling · 13/02/2024 00:13

The fabric of this dress looks more like 2,000 than 200. Someone suggested a push-up bra - not suggesting that you are inadequate in that department - but the shape of the neckline dictates it. Wishing you a lovely day! Please post a picture??

Nantescalling · 13/02/2024 00:19

Is that you in the picture or a model?

confusedbythesystem · 13/02/2024 02:42

It's a beautiful dress and not linked to any particular age. My only concern would be the cuff area of the sleeves. I'd end up with either the balloony bit or the drawstrings in the pub dinner! Also nice to have a bit of focus on the hands and ring, so I might get the sleeves narrowed slightly at the cuff. Personal choice though.

Buy the dress, enjoy your day!

This is my favourite phase 8 https://www.johnlewis.com/phase-eight-melanie-embellished-dress-ivory/p110510020

boho look, beautiful sleeves

Dear god, don’t wear that to get married, might be ok for the wedding night once everyone has gone home.

TheyreStillGoingWithThemPlumsKerr · 13/02/2024 08:11

I think the dress looks lovely on you (much better than on the model on the website). You’ve a great figure and, from the photo, this really seems to suit it

Watercolourpapier · 13/02/2024 08:16

I think it looks stunning on you and it's perfect for the vibe you're going for - low key but still bridal. I have seen thousands of wedding dresses and after a while they all just blend into one - that dress is memorable and beautiful. Whatever you wear, literally nobody at your wedding will ever think "wow she looks frumpy". If they do, are they really your friend?

Wear what makes YOU comfortable and happy.

CinnamonTree · 13/02/2024 08:40

@Rangelife I would love a LCD overlay. Are those your pics, they are simply stunning. I keep going back to their website and looking at the tops to go with the Monsoon shirt. Soooo beautiful!

@Nantescalling Model first pic. Me second pic.

@CinnamonTree yes, they are pics of my outfit (had to cut my head off in them haha). There are a few LCD overlays on ebay/vinted/still white I think. I really liked having separates, it felt more comfortable and I didn't feel overdressed or trussed up. I like to cover up so LCD was perfect. I love that Monsoon skirt you linked to. And I think you'd feel fine in the pub with it. Hope you get sorted and congratulations.

Yousay55 · 13/02/2024 09:07

I think it doesn’t look good on the beautiful, tall willowy model so I doubt it would look good on the average woman.
There are some lovely dresses in monsoon.

GelatoPistacchio · 13/02/2024 09:25

Just a thought OP, but Mumsnet is great for ideas but I wouldn't use it to feel confident about my wedding dress choice.

If you definitely want to look for another dress then this is a great place for help finding options. But it's not the place for increasing your confidence before the wedding. Someone will always be happy to tell you your choice looks shit in their eyes.

There was a lovely community of boho/alternative brides on Facebook (Rock and Roll Bride I think?) that will help you feel more confident in whatever choice you decide and help with practical stuff like underwear options, if you want a less bruising experience 😅

I think if a young, tall, slim bride was wearing it, it would look very boho chic. However an older, shorter, chubbier bride could look pretty awful and frumpy in it.

Willyoujust · 13/02/2024 09:42

CinnamonTree · 12/02/2024 07:25

Ok so I have tried the dress on again this morning. And I don't love it. I also think the sleeves are too long and would get in the way.

I really want to wow my husband to be (probably an unpopular opinion). I need to re-look. The dress is going back.

@TheMoonstone she isn't catty at all. She is a true friend and I want her to be honest. I just want to find a dress that isn't breaking the bank and I like. This is not that dress.

Oh I’ve just seen the picture of you wearing. I agree with your friend; there are so many nice dresses out there than this. Also it does not fit you very well so not the most flattering. I hope you find something amazing that you feel confident and beautiful in x

peachgreen · 13/02/2024 09:47

A lot sold out anyway. I wonder why they're so cheap?

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 13/02/2024 10:55

I don’t think the waistline is particularly flattering - it even looks odd on the model

NonPlayerCharacter · 13/02/2024 11:06

It's the kind of waist that looks good only if you're tall and slim with a long, slender waist, and those people look good in bloody anything.

Not many people, even with lovely shapes like OP's, are done justice by stuff that hides and overlaps the waist like that.

crazyaginglady · 13/02/2024 12:14

Mid 30s-mid 40s.

If you are hourglass I’d be wearing something less baggy at the waist, from a fellow (chubby) hourglass.

mycatismyworld · 13/02/2024 15:31

I think it's absolutely stunning. Your friend is jealous.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 13/02/2024 18:41

I rather liked that dress but I understand your feeling about the sleeves. I can see an accident waiting to happen with the soup course. Do go for something airy and ethereal though, you would look lovely.
