How old is this bride?

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:09

I'm thinking of wearing this for my wedding. My friend think it ages me considerably. Wedding is informal and low key. How old would you think the bride would be wearing this?

It looks great on you OP.

Popquizzer · 12/02/2024 14:37

I like the dress on you but I'd get the sleeves altered to be slimmer and shorter.

mathanxiety · 12/02/2024 15:17

I think a dress with a more fitted top would look less droopy/ baggy. The skirt of the original dress looked lovely imo.

Ruthietuthie · 12/02/2024 15:20

Having seen the photograph of you in it, you MUST send it back. It's too big, too drapy (sp?), and looks as if you are ashamed of your figure and yourself.
The Maggie dress with the little flowers is EXQUISITE. Can you find it second hand, maybe? It would also look lovely on your figure.
It's your wedding day. Get the Maggie. You will feel absolutely beautiful.

ArabellaScott · 12/02/2024 16:10

There's loads of second hand Maggie Sottero ones on ebay, all about £250.

Quizine · 12/02/2024 17:04

I'm useless at selecting nice dresses, but I love love a wedding dress thread! I'm old now so it's great to see you younger ones all throwing in your suggestions. I liked the dress the minute I saw it, but honestly that could be coming from slightly older eyes IYSWIM, so hmmmm on you it does look nice but with that lovely figure OP, you could probably do a bit more to get the WOW factor.

Anyway, from granny Quiz, here is what I liked from the Coast site that the original dress is on. Does anyone else like it, or should I just stay quiet and keep my suggestions to myself for now. LOL 😂BTW it's not a wedding dress as such, but it looks like it to me!

@CinnamonTree You can tell by your posture that you don't love the dress. I would just go and try things on- my wedding dress was nothing like.i had imagined!

I noticed you said you are in W Sussex. If you don't mind preloved, there is a wedding dress charity shop in Horsham (Carfax, on the market square) that might be budget friendly whilst providing what you need?

There's also https://www.stillwhite.com/shop that may have your dream dress at a more palatable price.

Ulysees · 12/02/2024 17:54

@Quizine that's lovely 😻

CinnamonTree · 12/02/2024 17:58

Wow the responses on this thread! I'm stunned. Thank you all for your input and support. I won't tag people as such but I will answer the questions I remember:

Wedding is informal and will be an outside affair. Small ceremony and then lovely pub for after. We will have about 15 guests. I don't think a really big fancy dress will suit the occasion and tbh as much as I will feel fantastic I will feel fantastic in any dress that will be special to both me and my husband. We are both so happy to get married.

The maids to measure dress I adore but I do think it is a bit bland for a wedding? I don't know though but I do love it.

I also like the following:

https://www.monsoon.co.uk/isla-bridal-skirt-ivory-20000170016.html

Skirt would need a top. I don't like the Monsoon top it is horrible.

I'm reluctant to buy from vinted without going to try on and buy in person. I'd happily buy second hand though. I do love a bargain if it is right.

I don't really have a set style as you'll notice but I know what I like. I'm the sort of person who goes out looking for the perfect black dress and always buys something so far removed.

Oh, now that is lovely. The petunia one.

kintra · 12/02/2024 18:11

The Needle & Thread one is lovely, but the waist looks like it sits high? Almost empire line instead of A line. We had a N&T dress on a recent bridal thread that was similar.

Ohter suggestions -

Top from Lace and Favour . Not sure it would go with the Monsoon skirt, but it might go with this skirt from Six Stories, or the cowl neck top from Six Stories might be nice with the Monsoon skirt? Rewritten might also be worth a look. Not cheap, similar to N&T, and maybe too plain for you if you like lacy, but I think their stuff is gorgeous.

Ulysees · 12/02/2024 18:16

There's probably vintage shops nearby or second hand bridal wear?
I like the petunia style.

Mosaic123 · 12/02/2024 18:50

Take a look at Raishma dresses online. Some are surprisingly reasonably priced.

There is a shop in Central London to visit too.

nopuppiesallowed · 12/02/2024 19:05

I think your dress is beautiful. I'd pile my hair high on my head with some loose tendrils hanging down and wear a pretty gold pearl drop necklace and matching earrings.

Peanutsnanna · 12/02/2024 19:12

It looks pretty awful on the model so doubt it would look better on a "normal" woman.

kintra · 12/02/2024 19:13

My algorithm is now suggesting me bridal dresses and this just popped up from Self Portrait ? I kinda love it? I think it would suit your figure OP and hopefully your style since the Coast one is a bit boho.

Mirabai · 12/02/2024 19:16

ScrambledSmegs · 12/02/2024 13:29

I really like the dress on you, however I agree the sleeves are too long. If you have a decent seamstress near you it might be possible to get them trimmed and finished to a more attractive length?

If you really like the vintage/boho vibe then take a look at Needle and Thread - some really pretty (albeit a bit more expensive) dresses.

Or this is gorgeous and a bit similar to your fancy dress (only a few left in your size) - Phase Eight

That Phase Eight dress is so pretty! Jenny Packham inspired.

Mysteriousfrowns · 12/02/2024 19:17

looks lovely! You're 5ft 9 it'll look great

itsmeagainagain · 12/02/2024 20:05

you have a beautiful figure @CinnamonTree but this dress isn't doing you any favours. I would go for something with a stronger shoulder line personally. What is it about this dress that you love?

UnctuousUnicorns · 12/02/2024 20:25

I think the Camilla gown looks like the elegant dressing gown that you sit around in getting your hair and make up done, before you put your actual wedding dress, tbh! 🤷‍♀️

DragonFly98 · 12/02/2024 21:06

No idea but it looks like a pair of net curtains. You can get something much nicer. Try monsoon.

CinnamonTree · 12/02/2024 21:13

@kintra I do actually like that dress until I saw pictures online of someone wearing it and I didn't think it fitted well.

Some of the Monsoon and ASOS ones are lovely. I just don't know which direction to go in. I'm sure I'll find something soon. There is no rush so will just keep my eyes open.

I know some charity shops have a bridal section.....or I've spotted them in the past. Also some Facebook marketplace wedding dresses offer a try before buying.... obviously only works if they are localish!
