How old is this bride?

I'm thinking of wearing this for my wedding. My friend think it ages me considerably. Wedding is informal and low key. How old would you think the bride would be wearing this?

its the dress I’d expect someone 50+ to choose.

Do you put it on and feel great?

motherofawhirlwind · 12/02/2024 08:55

I love it on you, just needs taking up a bit or heels. It's a really lovely dress.

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/02/2024 08:56

You have a beautiful figure but I don't think the dress shows off your waist.

Catsfrontbum · 12/02/2024 09:01

The sleeves aren’t right- too much fabric and length. I would have them cut to the elbow and left open. So they are more like a cap sleeve.

Also hem the dress, it’s too long.

Otherwise think it’s gorgeous on. It’s just the sleeves that swamp you.

Tigertigertigertiger · 12/02/2024 09:07

It's beautiful!
And stunning on you.

You love it , it doesn't really matter about anyone else

kintra · 12/02/2024 09:07

@CinnamonTree It actually looks lovely on you, but if you don't like it, definitely don't wear it. It's the one day you want to feel totally beautiful and confident. Can we see the £1800 dress? We could maybe find something similar. Or have you tried Stillwhite or the bridal Facebook groups? Lots of people try to sell on wedding dresses but they have little resale value, you might get a bargain if you're willing to look at second hand (or sample sales).

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 12/02/2024 09:09

Assuming the length and sleeves can be shorter then it's a nice fit but not as it is.

SwishSwishBisch · 12/02/2024 09:09

I’m afraid I’m with you OP. It does look better on you than it does on the website but even then, I think it just swamps you a bit and not in the elegant, willowy boho way it’s meant to.
It could absolutely be improved to emphasise your fabulous figure with tailoring if you love it, but if you don’t then keep on looking

AncientSkaterGirl · 12/02/2024 09:09

It's a gorgeous dress.

Schoolrunmumbun · 12/02/2024 09:14

You look lovely OP and with your height, figure and colouring so many dresses will look fab on you.

I've had a thread running for a few weeks, to help me get a bargain dress for a tiny laid back wedding. Check it out because there are so many amazing suggestions in there. We are similar ages and looking for similar things.

Cuppachuchu · 12/02/2024 09:23

It looks better on you than on the model, but looks too big on both (think it's the sleeves).
My suggestion is, don't limit yourself to a light colour if you are having a low-key wedding. Also, bridal doesn't have to mean lace.

pizzaHeart · 12/02/2024 09:31

your friend was right, for this style you need to have height AND to be really slim around waist, size 14 wouldn’t cut it (talking from bitter experience).
I think it’s one of the dresses which is good on the model because she looks certain way but doesn’t work with anybody just a bit different.

Ulysees · 12/02/2024 09:35

No sorry it's not right. Can you take it back?

CharlotteBog · 12/02/2024 09:36

It would suit me - tall and slim. I'd prefer it to be halter neck though as I do have toned arms.
It does seem to have quite a lot of fabric in the skirt which might kind of drown the sort of figure I think it would look good on, IYKWIM.

I am 53 and not getting married anyway!

Matronic6 · 12/02/2024 09:44

I think it's lovely on you. I actually think it looks better on you than the model. Looks more expensive as well. Also perfect for the event you describe.

banivani · 12/02/2024 09:49

I agree with PP, it looks better on you than the model! I thought the embroidery in the model pic looked a little cheap somehow which sadly makes embroidery look like curtains. But i changed my mind after your photo. However I agree that the sleeves are too wide and long (it's also too long for you but that is easily altered). So either the sleeves have to be adjusted or you just don't love it and it goes back.

Geripremi · 12/02/2024 09:54

I like it on you OP - but your friend will be comparing to other shapes she knows look fabulous on you.

Cocacolacarrie · 12/02/2024 09:56

It looks great on. It suits your shape. Although I do agree with PP, it would look better if the arms and skirt were altered.

LentilFaculties · 12/02/2024 10:44

I never comment on these posts because I'm not a traditional wedding person but i had to say that I think the dress looks absolutely gorgeous on you. Boring on the model but your figure brings out something really beautiful in it.

Mirabai · 12/02/2024 10:57

CinnamonTree · 12/02/2024 07:25

Ok so I have tried the dress on again this morning. And I don't love it. I also think the sleeves are too long and would get in the way.

I really want to wow my husband to be (probably an unpopular opinion). I need to re-look. The dress is going back.

@TheMoonstone she isn't catty at all. She is a true friend and I want her to be honest. I just want to find a dress that isn't breaking the bank and I like. This is not that dress.

Yes I think you’re right, it’s ok it’s not amazing.

moomoomoo27 · 12/02/2024 10:59

I would take it back, it looks awful in the non-professional photo - not because of you in any way, but because it looks like an un-ironed second hand dress. You've taken the photo in low lighting, but there's probably going to be several parts of low light at the wedding and it just makes it look a horrible beigey colour.

In the professional photo, I would say it's 40s-50s. It's giving older minor royal family.

SweetBirdsong · 12/02/2024 11:00

CinnamonTree · 11/02/2024 21:30

Thank you 😊 @SweetBirdsong

Why is it so hard to find a dress. I feel like it should be bloody easy. They are all beautiful. I just feel a full on dress is too much. We're hoping for a meal in a pub later. I can be quite eclectic in my style, although now I'm fatter and have a child much less so.

😘

therealcookiemonster · 12/02/2024 11:03

if you love it, buy it! it's a beautiful dress. age doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is if you feel happy in it

DIYnovices · 12/02/2024 11:03

It’s a dress for a larger person. I’ve been there! Covers arms and stomach while accentuating boobs. I don’t think it has much to do with age!
