How old is this bride?

I'm thinking of wearing this for my wedding. My friend think it ages me considerably. Wedding is informal and low key. How old would you think the bride would be wearing this?

You have a good figure. I wouldn't go all Jessica Rabbit necessarily but I think a different dress would flatter and show off your figure. You need to feel wonderful no matter how low key the wedding ❤️

I will read all these later. Just at a theme park with the kids. Fancy dress is this

@CinnamonTree Just noticed you posted a pic of yourself in said dress early this morning. Whilst you appear to have a good figure, I am really sorry, but in my opinion, the dress doesn't look great on. It looks quite frumpy and overly-fussy, and the arms are too long, and it just looks a bit 'Victorian.' 😬

I'm so sorry. 😦

diddl · 12/02/2024 11:12

I think it looks really nice on.

But if you don't love it then that doesn't matter.

Much prefer it to the "fancy" one!

Mirabai · 12/02/2024 11:13

I don’t mind the Victorian romantic vibe at all, it’s not everyone’s taste but done well it’s lovely. I just think OP needs to find a dress that fits her better rather than swamping her figure.

Mirabai · 12/02/2024 11:14

Alice Temperly has very much influenced this look and it can be beautiful.

ImTheMidsomerMurderer · 12/02/2024 11:15

I think that 1st coast version from @ghislaine would be lovely on you. I think you have a great figure 👌🏻

Crazybengalcats · 12/02/2024 11:16

I think it's beautiful and like someone else said, is an ageless dress.

If you like it, wear it. It's your wedding!

ItsallIeverwanted · 12/02/2024 11:19

Having seen the pic, I don't think the original dress is doing you any favours. It looks fine, as you are tall and slim, but it's not not stunning and I don't think you feel stunning in it. If you like that look, I'd look at Monsoon on Vinted or Ebay or second hand wedding sites, because Monsoon have that more pared back flowing look, often not in bright white as well, just very simple.

Crazybengalcats · 12/02/2024 11:20

Just seen your photo!

It looks beautiful on you. Suits your face shape and hair colour, your body shape etc.

With a boho kind of hair style and some heels do it's not dragging on the floor, maybe some flowers in your hair, it'd look gorgeous.

So dream gown is very different to the Coast one. I definitely think you can find something you like better, in that case. There is a Ladonna on Stillwhite but hardly any cheaper than brand new, making it not worth it IMO. What about this? Same designer, similar silhouette and straps. The embellishment is a little different so I guess it depends if the 3D flowers are what you love? But it's an ex-sample, reasonable price, and ships within the UK.

delsie · 12/02/2024 11:40

Older I think. 40+

delsie · 12/02/2024 11:43

I think it looks lovely on you, OP. Nicer than the photo. Genuinely. It looks vintage in a good way.

delsie · 12/02/2024 11:45

I don't like the fancy dress.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 12/02/2024 11:51

@CinnamonTree just wanted to tag you to say I think it looks really lovely! Kind of reminds me of the wedding dress Robin Wright wears when she marries Forrest Gump, so a bit hippy-70s kind of vibe.

I agree with others it looks nicer on you than on the model, and I think with accessories and hair (big curls and some flowers or gems pinned in) it'll look fab.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 12/02/2024 11:54

PS the fancy one you like is nice, but doesn't really say 'low-key going to a pub for a nice meal after' really. It says '£50k+ was spent on this castle and everything else'.

Katbum · 12/02/2024 11:58

I think it depends on the cut of the fabric and how it skims your body - undergarments can help with this. I wore a long sleeved red dress from Rixo for my wedding last year and feel the control garments made all the difference in going from frumpy to stylish. I also had some alterations made so it clung to my figure which is busty but small waist (so hard to find off the rack that doesn’t say around the midrif). Anyway, if you love it don’t worry about your friend’s view.

SnapdragonToadflax · 12/02/2024 12:22

The dress is a nice shape, but way too big for you - it's too long in the waist and the excess fabric around the skirt is swamping you. Also the sleeves are too blousy. You could have it tailored to fit you better, but if you don't love it that's not worth doing.

You need something much neater-fitting in the bodice (like the Maggie Sottero one is). Once that fits you properly, you can have a long wafty skirt if that's your preference.

KreedKafer · 12/02/2024 12:26

I think the dress itself is pretty ageless and is lovely. But I do think the sleeves are definitely too long and I think perhaps the proportions of the dress in general are just not quite right for you. I think perhaps the waistline on the dress is a little low for your natural waist? It's a fab dress but you have an incredible figure and I think the dress would need a few alterations to do your beautiful shape justice.

I definitely think you could find something affordable that's closer to this shape, which would be great on you.

LondonJax · 12/02/2024 12:43

Have you been to a bridal shop? I went to one for my wedding dress and she showed me a dress I would never have thought of based on what I liked to wear (parties etc).

I tried it on, fell in love with it. Even a woman waiting for her daughter told me how lovely it looked. I felt so special on the day. And it was in my budget.

Well worth a visit even if it just gives you an idea of what sort of cut you need. You can then look for that sort of style to whittle it all down.

Toomanyemails · 12/02/2024 12:57

OP I think it looks gorgeous on you but doesn't seem to quite fit right. Could you visit a good dressmaker/seamstress and see if they can suggest any alterations? You'd be able to see if you prefer it the way they pin it. IMO it's the tailoring that makes a dress. Eg in your pic, I think the sleeves look too long even for the billowy look, and maybe raise the waistline in line with your natural figure?

Your fancy dress is much more fitted, so with some good alterations you can see if you love how you look in the first one.

BobAJob317 · 12/02/2024 13:00

I like it on you 😀
