First round of Botox - what to expect!?

sleepsuit · 10/02/2024 14:17

I've done it. I've booked my first Botox appointment as I'm fed up of looking tired and worn out beyond my years.

I did my research (thanks Mumsnet) and have found a practitioner who has been a registered Doctor for over 15 years and comes with excellent reviews.

But... What can I expect? Does it hurt? Will my face look instantly better or does it take a while? Is there anything I should be aware of? Or avoid?

Don't drink alcohol for a day or two beforehand.

Newnamesameoldlurker · 10/02/2024 21:54

I agree with pp who say that finding the right injector is absolutely key. I've tried loads. I once got a droop which was awful. The 2 best injectors I've seen have been a consultant dermatologist and an oculoplastic surgeon.

I've been having it done for a few years and actually just been today!

It's not sore, more like little pin pricks if that makes sense

Some areas are more sensitive than others and I always bruise around the eye area but that's just me. Tiny spotting of blood and she wipes me when I'm done.

My nurse sits me down at each appointment, she has a form to fill in and it's got a face diagram on it and I tell her what's annoying me and she makes X marks on her paper.

No make up. No alcohol, no lying down for a few hours after.

You might get a heavy feeling in your head but nothing drastic and my skin around my eyes feels a little tight.

Honestly if you've chosen someone reputable then you should have an informative positive experience. Good luck xx

It's not painful. Don't massage it or wear makeup or cream till next day. It usually takes about a week to work. My lady offers free top up 2 weeks later because that's when you can see how it looks and if it was what you wanted or if any places need a bit more.

I’ve been meaning to book in for ages and this thread has convinced me! Can anyone recommend someone good in Kent?

Have a look on the save face website- these are government approved practitioners so safest place to look unless you get a very good private recommendation.

sleepsuit · 11/02/2024 10:22

@Stumpedasatree yes of course. Literally waiting for my appointment now!

I started last year and not looked back. I looked tired, grumpy and my forehead was so expressive like Jim Carrey!
I love the effects
My dentist does it so I pay more than a beautician but worth it as they have to spend years learning face muscles
It doesn't hurt and takes a few weeks to feel full effect, and then a top up and 2 weeks after that to see finished results.
I love looking fresher and my age now. When I look surprised my eyebrows raise but no wrinkles
Good luck ♥️

toomanyleggings · 11/02/2024 10:49

It used to take a day to kick in when I started ten years ago, now it’s more like 4 days and it changes over the two weeks. Doesn’t really hurt to have done, bit stingy in places

Saurus72 · 10/02/2024 20:21

How does Botox compare to dermal fillers if you’re already showing signs of aging? Not really wrinkles as such - just tired- looking, drooping at sides of mouth etc?

My doctor uses a tiny amount of filler on the top of my cheekbones to achieve a "lift" effect and fillers around the mouth area. It has to be very conservative though or you could end up looking like Madonna.

JodieFostersFurHood · 11/02/2024 11:06

Re the botox I can feel an immediate opening of my eyes as I get it to counteract hooded eyes but the full effect takes at least 14 days. My doctor will not do a top up before then. It can be a bit stingy at the time but it is so short - it's the noise that is weird.

sleepsuit · 11/02/2024 12:58

It's done!

Didn't hurt, felt like the tiniest scratch. A bit red for ten minutes but you wouldn't know it now. There are no marks, no bruising, nothing.

I've had two areas - 11s and crows feet. Obviously zero change yet but I'm excited to see what happens over the next few days!!

Following this with interest.Booked for a consultation on the 12th. Same as you i’m fed up of looking tired, never thought about it before,i try and look after myself, hair coloured, try and keep fit and at a weight feel good at but had noticed recently that i felt my age lol so bit the bullet and booked in.

Rosiiee · 11/02/2024 18:46

Ah can’t wait till my appointment!! Waiting till I’m 30! Refusing to give in to Botox before 30 😂

Bimblesalong · 09/03/2024 20:33

How’s it going @sleepsuit ? Does your forehead feel weird and heavy? Hope you’re happy with the outcome.

sleepsuit · 09/03/2024 20:36

@Bimblesalong it's fab!

No heaviness at all. Started to see first effects after about three days, now three weeks in and it's so smooth! My 11s are completely gone and my crows feet are no longer there.

Have had a few comments about looking fresh and young and "different!" So it definitely had an effect! I'll be going again 🤣

I love it. It stings a bit at the bit between my eyes but the effects are worth it.

anon1968 · 09/03/2024 20:55

This thread gave me the push i needed too. I had 11’s, crows feet and marionette lines, a week ago. 11’s are completely gone, theres a noticable improvement on eyes and mouth, but not completely gone, will it still improve more as its only been a week? I do go back for a checkup at two week point and they said they would put a bit more in if they felt it needed it. Have to say ,i love it, feel more my self. Wish i’d done it a few yrs ago x

Two weeks you'll see full effects, they'll top up if needs be and then another two weeks for full effect of that. And then it stays good for 3 months for me. Apparently this gets longer the more you do it

Rosiiee · 10/03/2024 07:06

Did you bruise OP?? I have my first appt on Friday and I can hardly wait! Feeling more excited after reading this thread!

sleepsuit · 10/03/2024 07:40

@Rosiiee not one bit! Had tiny red marks where the needle went in but these were gone within 10-15minutes! No bruising at all .

I always need a two week top up then I pretty much lose all my wrinkles

Curtainconundrum · 10/03/2024 08:42

How much does it cost?

Between 160-300 usually depending on where you live and how many areas you want treating

Bimblesalong · 10/03/2024 09:22

@sleepsuit thats fab, glad it’s working for you. Does your face feel different for a period whilst you’re getting used to it?

@anon1968 great to hear the positives too.
