Wedding outfits for 10 and 1 year olds

Help! I’m getting married in June and really struggling what to dress my two boys in. It is a registry wedding followed by a meal in a nice pub so I don’t need them to be 3 piece suit smart. The main problem is that one of them is 10 and the other will only be 17 months.

I can’t find anything I like that that caters to both sizes and doesn’t look ridiculous. I was thinking along the lines of trousers, shirt and braces and a brand new pair of eg Vans/Converse for them to wear but is this smart enough? I don’t want to put baby DS in a suit but DS10 is happy to wear one. I’d like them to match ish and look similar for photos but maybe it isn’t possible.

(Also if this is better in weddings please move it 😊)

For a similar age gap at a family wedding we went for...

Camel chinos
Converse
White shirt
Navy sports jacket

I love little boys in shorts and suspenders. When my son was a toddler he wore blue shorts, white short sleeve button up, and red suspenders to my sisters wedding. Here's a cute little overall short for boys.

Big brother can wear navy trousers, white long sleeve shirt, suspenders. Tidy looking without feeling too formal.

Congratulations.

Their ages are far too far apart to be dressed in matching clothes. Put them in the same colour if you must, but identical outfits is just daft.

What you suggest sounds lovely. I don't think you should worry about smart "enough", your day your rules.

Have you thought about waistcoats? Black ones with a white shirt looks like a snooker player, but this navy John Lewis one with a light blue shirt looks great. Sizes start at 2yrs, but that might still work https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-heirloom-collection-kids-twill-suit-waistcoat-blue/p2152398?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappios&size=5-years&&_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Have a look at next under the party and occasion section. Lots of options there

I said I want them to match ‘ish’ and look similar - not for them to be wearing identical outfits. But thank you so much for your valuable contribution.

I was wondering about putting the baby in shorts and my older one in trousers of a similar colour. I do think shirt and suspenders is the way to go rather than suit jackets and formal shoes.

Me too! My eldest won’t wear one though perhaps rightly 🤣 maybe I can find a bow tie for the baby and a tie in matching colour for my eldest.

What is your 10 year old like clothes wise? Mine has a definite idea of what he likes..🤣
I would be tempted to bring him sort an outfit and then shop for the younger boy, following the colours rather than specifically the same item?

I always think navy with a pale blue looks gorgeous, with a playful shoe. My eldest wore angry birds bright yellow runners with navy trousers, pale blue shirt (linen) grandad collar and a blazer. To his aunt's wedding, he looked gorgeous in pictures (vvbiased mother) smart but still child friendly. I am sure they will look gorgeous..
