Pearl studs: ageless classic or mark of the middle-aged?

I have some plain, very aged pearl studs which I quite fancy myself in but cannot quite make out whether they make me look like overpowdered granny. Thoughts?

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 16:02

same with tiny diamond chip studs

No19 · 22/03/2008 16:04

I am not mad about chips of anything.

oh I like a chip

No19 · 22/03/2008 16:05

Have you ever noticed how the pearl earring in Girl with a looks nothing like a pearl?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 16:07

maybe it's a baroque pearl ?

BoysOnToast · 22/03/2008 16:08

girl with a waht?

No19 · 22/03/2008 16:10

Maybe but to me it looks like silver

I have pearl studs and matching necklace that I wear often.

I don't think it is the pearls that make you frumpy.

No19 · 22/03/2008 16:18

Are you trying to tell me something Kinderegg?

OP posts:
LarryVeest · 22/03/2008 16:22

They're a bit too sloaney for my taste. I imagine pearl-studded gals to wear velvet hair bands and navy tights and shirts with upturned frilly collars.

Should I have written, "I don't think it is the pearls that makes one frumpy"?

I was not talking about anyone in particular, but using "one" always seems so strange.

I wear pearls with everything. At the moment I have a set of big (fake) pink ones that I love.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 16:32

freshwater pearls are a good alternative to trad - I wear about 3 or 4 little bracelets of them and 3 small silver rings with them on,all on one finger

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 22/03/2008 16:34

I have a wonderful string of pearls, I don't have my ears pierced.

Well actually I do, they never closed up, but if I try and put earrings in they go all red and itchy, what is that all about ??

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 16:39

you might be allergic to the metal (nickel ?) in the posts ? my friend can only wear pure silver in hers apparently...

No19 · 22/03/2008 16:39

That happens to me if I wear earrings for more than about 6 hours, then my ears feel horrible for 2 days. Started thinking earrings were manky so last few times I have dipped earring posts in alcohol before putting them in, to sterilise them, has been ok.

Would gold do this as well ??

Might try dipping them in whiskey before I go out tonight.

or paint the posts with a bit of clear nail varnish
