Is this dress ok for a funeral?

I'm struggling to find a plain black dress in a Size 22. Found this dress I liked but there is a lot of white and maybe the sleeves are a bit flouncy?

I'll have a coat on top at the church and cemetery so the sleeves won't be seen until we are back at the house.

What do you think? (I'm related to the deceased rather than just a guest)

It’s perfect

Yes I think so x

I think its respectful to make an effort and look stylish if you can, and I think this dress is absolutely fine

heldinadream · 05/02/2024 19:15

It's both lovely, and completely fine for a funeral OP. Very sorry for your loss.

easilydistracted1 · 05/02/2024 19:17

Yes it's perfectly appropriate. Particularly with smart black accessories

MixedPeel27 · 05/02/2024 19:17

Thank you so much for replying.

I didn't want to look foolish or over the top but definitely want to make an effort.

It's perfect and you will get your wear out of it after.

It’s fine, but I am surprised that you say you struggled to find a black dress in size 22. A quick search on M&S and Next has returned loads (some are beachwear and not suitable) but there are loads with no white embroidery on them.

The last three funerals I've been to have been non black. Make sure it's a traditional funeral first

WhereAreWeNow · 05/02/2024 19:33

Sorry for your loss, OP. Sadly I had to go to quite a few funerals last year and none of them were particularly strict about dress code, even the more traditional ones. One was 'anything but black' with lots of bright colours. Others people wore black, navy and other dark colours.
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

MixedPeel27 · 05/02/2024 19:39

@LookItsMeAgain to be fair, I have a lot of criteria:

No cleavage
MIDI / maxi length
Sleeves
Not clingy
Not too hot

I started with Next and there were a couple of contenders but nothing seemed smart enough.

It is a traditional funeral so expect most will be primarily in black.

I've ordered the KM dress so I can see how it looks on. Agree that if it's appropriate it's something I'll be able to wear again which is good.
