How did it affect the skin on your body, and your face if it was round with double chin and jowls?
Height is 5'7'. Aged 51?
I'm also walking or cycling every day in an effort to tone as I go along .
Thanks

Not me, but a couple of ladies at work have, and they have lost shape around the jaw.

IrritableVowel · 05/02/2024 09:35

I have gone from a 20-22 to a 12-14, I still have a couple of stones to go. I am 43.

My face has drooped a bit, I had really fat cheeks and chin. I am wrinklier. My neck is the worst bit, like a deflated balloon.

My least favourite part of weight loss is my tummy, I have an obvious apron of loose skin/fat that hangs. I think it is really noticeable in jeans and some dresses. I think that will never bounce back or shrink.

The face and neck don't bother me as much. I was going to age anyway!

That wasn't much help, was it!?!

lightfave · 05/02/2024 09:36

So their jaw skin sags?

OP posts:
DustyLee123 · 05/02/2024 09:36

Yes, and a Turkey neck. But there’s things you can do .

TokyoSushi · 05/02/2024 09:37

I've gone from a 'good' 16 to a 10/12, I look older and my neck is terrible Grin but overall I look & feel much, much better!

lightfave · 05/02/2024 09:38

Thanks also@IrritableVowel ! Well done on such a great loss of weight. You must feel really energised. I've a round face but beneath the fat is decent bone structure. Is there anything that can support the facial sagging ... I'll hopefully hide the apron !

I've got jowls now and look a bit older than my true age. I know this because fair few times people have made comments that showed they thought I was older than I am (e.g. referencing time periods I would have been a bit too young to remember etc.) or looked astonished when I said my age (and not as in they thought I was younger!).

However, as I'm in my forties now I was bound to get jowls sooner or later, especially as my skin elasticity was not great. And I think I could fix them with a lower face lift if I could afford that.

It does vary from person to person. Some have better elasticity than others, e.g. darker and East Asian skin types may have better elasticity.

lightfave · 05/02/2024 09:39

What can be done for turkey neck??

OP posts:
waistchallenge · 05/02/2024 09:40

Lower face lift/platysmaplasty.

lightfave · 05/02/2024 09:53

Would any creams or Botox work ?

I've lost 7 stone, I'm in my mid 50s and my jaw and neck look fine. Hell, I've actually GOT a neck and a jaw line now! It's not that of a young woman but it's not bad

I have some loose skin on my stomach and my thighs are a bit wobbly but not nearly as much as you'd expect for that amount of weight loss. I don't have many lines so maybe I just have elastic skin. I do a lot of heavy weight training which has preserved muscle and helped with the skin and toning.
I wouldn't rule out a few tweaks though...

cheapskatemum · 05/02/2024 10:11

I was a size 16 at my biggest/heaviest & I am now size 10/12. I was around 51 when I started losing weight too. The exercise you are doing will definitely help. Strength exercises are also particularly helpful for toning loose skin.

I use No7 Restore & Renew face, neck & décolleté multi action Serum. That's the one in the pink tube, which I started using at 60. In my 50s I used the No7 one in the same range, but in the blue tube. I'm sorry, I can't remember its exact name, but the No7 consultant will be able to direct you to it. They're expensive, but do the job & I find a large tube lasts around 6 months, so I definitely think it's worth the cost. I use Advantage offers & points which helps.

SanjayKarma · 05/02/2024 10:14

It might help to know if they have cheek bones, had a big double chin or weak bone structure as that can affect things. It also depends if it was a fast weight loss or over a year or longer. Crash weight loss, huge.double chin and no cheek bones will look older. But the skin improves a bit over couple years later.

My weight loss was a massive amount far more than you're asking opinions on OP but I want to second this post.

I have horribly loose skin especially face (stomach and thighs don't bother me in the slightest) and I think looking after your skin carefully with these No7 Boots products above which have also helped me and also looking after your skin tends to make you feel better and 'carry' yourself better which in turn helps the look and feel as it were.

waistchallenge · 05/02/2024 10:21

To be blunt about it, if there were truly a cream that could emulate a neck lift you wouldn't see anyone having a neck lift.

That said, it is very rare to see anyone say they regret their weight loss. Most people look and feel vastly better. Worry about loose skin etc. is just a psychological trick the "fat brain" plays on you to try and keep you fat. There's lots of other examples of things like this that are worries or thought processes that are meant to keep you overweight. Sometimes other overweight people will suggest things, too, that will put you off if you're not careful (e.g. "you're looking skinny" or "what about loose skin 😱?").

lightfave · 05/02/2024 10:22

Thanks for the recommendations. I have high cheek bones and a strong jaw . Oval but definitely significant 😂face shape is like that actress who was in 90210 programme years ago. Think her name is Tiffany??

With a strong jaw and cheek bones you will be fine might have the nose to mouth lines but a filler easily fixes this area.

IrritableVowel · 05/02/2024 10:34

I follow an account on Instagram called Half of Carla, she has lost 13 stone. She is only in her 30s but she gets (in my opinion) subtle treatments on her face and neck, botox and fillers. I think she has a saved highlight about it on her Instagram. It's something I am going to look into, but I kinda want to get to goal first and see what I look like, if that makes sense.

I think though I am at an age where all of a sudden we start looking like our mums and aunts, and it can catch you off guard in a shop window.

I am so much healthier now, I am trying to embrace the changes!

BuntyCollocks · 05/02/2024 17:18

I was a 22 and now a 6 - my face is fine. I had a tummy tuck for my stomach. My arms and legs aren’t too bad - not bad enough I’d have surgery. My tits are awful - just skin. However, a small price to pay and I’ll get them sorted some day. They’re fine in a bra or bralette.

I’m a bit younger, though, 40 - 38 when started losing weight.

suki1964 · 05/02/2024 23:23

16/18 last year , now 10/12 and heading to 8/10

My face is fine - ish :) As is my neck. Yes I have developed lines from the lip corners heading down but thats not a problem, Im no spring chicken

The worse for me is the wrinkly belly skin and the wrinkly skin on my arms, thats really quite depressing tbh. However it is only me sees the belly and sleeves hide the arms

Even though I have now got wrinkles on the face I actually dont look as old as I did, I mean I am old, but cheekbones appearing have kind of lifted my features

My skin has also cleared up considerably - very little sugar and fat in the diet nowadays, out walking in all weathers, its a lot less congested, oily and dull

I am helping it along with moisturising religiously with both hyarulonic and retinol

But you do know its just the outer shell of you that tends to come off the worse, inside your body is loving you and shows its gratitude in a million other ways, from sleeping well, to having the energy to do whatever it is you want to achieve :)

GettingBetter2024 · 05/02/2024 23:28

Wow @BuntyCollocks I have a lot to llose and would love to do it over 2 years. Any hints tips etc?! How did you do it?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 05/02/2024 23:43

5'3, 51 years, gone from a size 20 and nearly 16 stone to a 10-12 and 9 stone 2 lbs. Most of it in a year (full disclosure: with the help of Ozempic/Wegovy and calorie deficit). Not done masses of exercise.
I look... sort of amazing, shape wise if I may say so. Without clothes I look a bit "melted" and I had 2 c sections so still and little apron. Bum is a lot softer and less "filled out" and yes I have a bit of a turkey neck which I don't love and I'm more jowly. But smiling helps! I also swear by bovine collagen, HRT, Omega 3 and sunscreen. Yes I had a look at lower face lifts but I don't want to spend the money or take the risk.
I was never a model but I used to have decent proportions and it's nice to feel like "me" again. Sagging is way better than I thought it would be considering I lost faster than what is recommended, and I swear some of the skin is tightening up on its own. I have zero regrets.
Edit: Not to mention I feel amazing. Blood pressure + waist spot on, energy levels up, confidence up, work + family life never been better really.

coxesorangepippin · 06/02/2024 02:40

I've been bigger and can attest that my face looks a million types better slimmer.

I actually have cheekbones!

When I'm bigger I just get a big round moon face which hides my small features

BuntyCollocks · 06/02/2024 10:45

@GettingBetter2024 a mini gastric bypass 🤣 best thing I’ve ever done for myself bar the tummy tuck. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Lost all my weight within a year and have maintained for a year - well, lost a bit more but not massive amounts, another stone or so.
