As said, very early April wedding, Lake District, church small and access across a field. Wedding guest, mid sixties, fat, blond, not one for frills and fuss and don’t want something that’s going to hang in the wardrobe. No hat. Partial to sea salt, but can’t find anything I like there. Don’t want to spend a fortune.

Not sure what sea salt means in this context, but it's my 60th early April and I'm considering this, although I probably have dressier things in my wardrobe

Am on a similar quest. DP’s niece wedding second week in April. I’m early 60s, medium height, hourglass figure. Tbh I am all out of inspiration. Fashion doesn’t seem to work for older women. I like Seasalt too but they’re not nearly smart enough for a wedding (all those crew necks). Jackets never fit me on top so have to be a smart cardigan for cover-up.

As I recall, last Summer the best MN discovery for a ‘don’t want to spend a fortune, tramping across fields’ wedding guest dress was from … Warehouse. Possibly a collab - beautiful prints, 100% cotton, weighty and generous fabric (according to the posters who bought them). Unbelievably inexpensive in the sales (and not expensive full price either).

It might be too early for anything similar to be on their website yet.

I find it does. Magnificently. There’s almost too much choice, and limitless sources.

Keepingongoing · 05/02/2024 17:59

@StrangeNew
Well, I’m glad to hear that. What labels do you buy/ wear?

If I'm remembering correctly there were a couple of maxi Warehouse dresses which looked as if they'd escaped from somewhere like Alémais. There's nothing currently as nice.

Are these the Warehouse dresses you were thinking of? StrangeNew

Yes! Only in the vague hope that they might do as well this Summer.

Though there may equally be other surprising hits from other shops.

What about this?

https://www.debenhams.com/product/jolie-moi-mirrored-mesh-angel-sleeve-maxi-dress_p-d32c4b88-77c8-4bab-b0c0-0c6081883cb8?colour=Green&size=10&istCompanyId=76f7277d-6e78-4dc2-aaff-1eb77fae16b0&istFeedId=258a4886-8f3c-47ef-9369-d1eda8d84501&istItemId=lmwiaimlw&istBid=t&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkMXGndCWhAMVCZJQBh2WoAPvEAQYCCABEgKeu_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

My mum is around size 16 and 60s, and wore a lovely Jolie Moi dress to a wedding, it wasn’t this specific one but this looks lovely, and I think Jolie Moi has some nice flattering dresses for wedding occasions.

I do like the monsoon dress, but being ample of arse and chest I fear I might look like a 1970s sofa. Think I’m going to monsoon tomorrow so will look. I want to wear again, so hopefully will find something.

Looked at the monsoon dress, bloody woven viscose innit? Thicker than normal, but we’ve got a two hour drive to the middle of the Lakes, so will be creased to buggery. Shopping is horrible now isn’t it? Barely anything in, monsoon had three dresses, all the little niche places were full of accessories.
I know Seasalt are a bit casual, but I quite like this one in blue maybe with a jacket https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/pellar-ecovero-linen-blend-floral-dress but it also sounds a bit creasy.

Pellar Floral Dress

A simple but elevated ankle-length dress made with LENZING ECOVERO viscose blended with linen for a beautiful movement and drape.

I think the Seasalt dress in the blue colour way is very nice and I'm sure wouldn't crease too much.

Have you considered booking a hotel / B&B for either the night before or after the wedding - whichever works best logistically - so you can change into your finery there, rather than having to choose a dress that can withstand travel? I know it’s extra expense - but it’s a one-off.

BeaLola · 11/02/2024 11:23

Last wedding I went to with a significant car journey (but couldn't stay night before) I did all make up , hair and jewellery for outfit and travelled in shirtwaister dress and then we stopped at a local pub 5 mins from church (checked with them in advance) and we all had bacon or sausage sandwiches and coffees and I just changed my dress over in the ladies (which was huge)

Zebracat · 11/02/2024 12:16

Cold in the Lakes in Early April. There are some cord dresses on Joanne which I think would be lovely.

Work in a school doesn’t allow sadly.

How very awkward!

You could still book a room just for the day - though it might feel extravagant. I’m not sure I’d want to rely on @BeaLola‘s solution unless I was already certain of the facilities.
