Brands to look for on Vinted

I’ll admit I’m a cheap and cheerful shopper often but have lost a bit of weight and would like some nicer stuff. What brands would be good to search for on Vinted - I’m particularly looking for decent trousers. I’m now a size 6/8 (25in waist) which is making some shopping tricky as a lot of modern size 8s have massive waists and I’m finding a lot of things I buy are just too big. So I’m loathe to spend a lot when I’m not sure about sizing.

First of all, you look absolutely amazing!
I am same body shape as you but about a size bigger (6 waist and 8/10 hips) and I find All Saints Mast jeans really suit me. I buy W28 so you would probably need W25 or W26. Have a look at eBay, I tend to buy them there for about 10GBP a pair.

I'm a 25 waist (and 6/8 in general)
I buy size 6 hush bottoms which fit really nicely.
Jeans either Levi's or superdry..flattering and come in 25 inch waist and multiple leg lengths.

I’m a 26 inch waist, 38 hips. I would recommend either looking at ‘curvy’ ranges for jeans (eg A&F or Asos do curvy jeans - for people with a bigger hip/waist ratio). I’m also 5 foot 10 so not easy buying clothes 😂
Or go for things with stretch.
Or look at the shape/style of the clothes - eg a paperbag or belted waist works well for me as I can adjust the waist, and Me and Em do some trousers with an adjustable waist.
Or get things adjusted - my husband is good with a sewing machine so takes in the waist for me if it’s too big.

Nothing to add on your actual question but well done OP!!! You look absolutely amazing - really inspirational!

sunshinesupermum · 02/02/2024 17:25

Your measurements of c. 24" waist and 36" hip was fairly normal size 10 I think in the 1970s so vintage clothing is definitely the way to go! I recently sold a stash of that size on Vinted recently when clearing out a wardrobe as no one in my family is that size now!

Namechange357 · 02/02/2024 17:31

Have a look at Reiss for smart trousers. Might be better to try on lots of different brands in a department store first, so see which suit your body shape best.

MightyGoldBear · 02/02/2024 17:33

Wow op you look amazing 👏 why do you want to cover up I'd be tempted to walk around naked 😂

It is however chilly. Why not treat yourself to a stylist fitting in a department store? Get a feel for some brands and clothes you like? If that's in budget and your kind of thing.

lechatnoir · 02/02/2024 17:35

@AtomicBlondeRose you look awesome and well done for all your hard work. I'm similar shape to your before photo and definitely look and feel worse for lack of exercise (previous running / gym bunny with peri lethargy) but you've inspired me to give Caroline Hirons another go as I wfh and it's so convenient. I think like you say it's just committing to making the change and following through.

Feel like we need a thread for Atomic's disciples insured to change

You look amazing - what a great before and after!
I’m a similar size and age and it takes dedication but feel great still so I stick with it! In answer to your question, I love &otherstories on vinted, can get some great bargains as there’s a lot of it on there, and they do xs which fits me well.
supermarket clothes are massive so no good for thin women anyway! I use Vinted to buy brands I couldn’t afford new and it’s brilliant.

Bigdoglittlecat · 02/02/2024 18:12

(Also not sure why someone doubted an 11 inch difference between waist and hips! That’s not weird at all, it’s actually a good thing for health reasons!)

boyohboys · 03/02/2024 15:12

I was thinking the same @Bigdoglittlecat - I've got a 28" waist and 39" hips and whilst clearly not skinny, am a classic pear and look ok on it.

WinchSparkle80 · 03/02/2024 15:20

Hollister?

But just wow @AtomicBlondeRose you look absolutely amazing. You have really given me something to aspire too, as I am your before pic and same age. Bravo!

@AtomicBlondeRose, very grateful you took the time to explain what you did. I've started Caroline Girvan and already feel better. I don't even need to bother motivating myself, just get up and do what the lady says, and 40 minutes later I am done. Brilliant, thank you so much!
(muscle pains the first 3 days were...interesting, haha)

That’s really great, well done! Funny you say about motivation as I’ve just been (badly) trying to explain on another thread that doing exercise is nothing to do with motivation - I find I don’t need any to do CG as like you say, you just do as you’re told. And that’s surprisingly simple (but not easy!).

Make sure you take before photos - you’ll want to look at them when you’ve worked all the way through a programme!

There's 11inch difference between your waist and your hips? 27cm? Are you sure?

It's not unusual to have a more than 10" difference between waist and hip. I'm a 27" waist and 39" hip. It's just curvy/hourglass.

@AtomicBlondeRose you look fantastic. I've been trying to sort out my diet, do intermittent fasting, and go to the gym. I'm not seeing much physical difference yet but hopefully I will with time.

For jeans, I've recently discovered Abercrombie and Fitch Curve Love. You can see exact waist and hip measurements on the size guide and they come in a 25" waist. They're true to actual waist size in my experience.

I saw the other thread - you explained well, they're not listening. But reminded me I owed you a huge thank you 🌷
