HELP! HELP! HELP! Evening dress help needed!

Gemy · 20/03/2008 21:53

Black tie party in a few weekends and I don't know what to wear and need some inspirition!

Have just had baby (12 weeks ago) so nothing satin or clingy but fitted is fine.

Size 10, defined waist, big boobs, good legs, blonde hair (so no washing out colours)

I thought maybe a long dress then don't have to worry about fake tanning lots, but also for dancing fancy a knee length swishy dress. If I could afford it, my first choice is the long silver pleated dress my Nina Ricci that has been on the catwalk over the last few weeks. BUT, back in RL, my budget is more humble (£300) and I don't have friends in high places to get my on the waiting list (and it'd probobley look silly on me anyway)

Help!

£300 is not a very humble budget. Will search (but am more at home with a £30 budget)

choosyfloosy · 20/03/2008 22:06

wow. shouldn't say it but - i should have your problems!! hope you find something lovely.

I've really enjoyed window-shopping at www.netaporter.com - do you hang out there? try clicking on 'clothing' and then 'mini-dresses', and then head for the bottom of the list - loads around your budget.

Maidamess · 20/03/2008 22:06

Blimey, a budget of £300!! I'd better cancel my link to the New Look website then

Have you looked at Debenhams online? They usually have some lovely eveningy things. Youre figure sounds great.

any good

Maidamess · 20/03/2008 22:10

I like this. Or too much boobage?

JackieBollyKnickers · 20/03/2008 22:14

Would this or this work?

JackieBollyKnickers · 20/03/2008 22:19

Some lovely stuff at Coast.

JackieBollyKnickers · 20/03/2008 22:35

Alexander McQueen?

sparkleymummy · 20/03/2008 22:41

I've just bought this. I'm the same shape, size and colouring as you. Its lovely.

www.lkbennett.com/products/clothing/clothingdresses/clothingdresseseveningoccasion/lucy/pid-28679gre en

Upon advice from MN I wore it with bright pink shoes from Coast.

JackieBollyKnickers · 20/03/2008 22:45

That's gorgeous, sparklymummy - lovely in the grey too (as the op likes silver)

sparkleymummy · 20/03/2008 22:47

I did have to have it taken up an inch or so though because it hit my shins at the frumpy point rather than the glamorous point. I'm small though. If you're tall it will be fine.

Gemy · 21/03/2008 08:08

Wow sparkley thanks that dress is gorgeous! Just what I had in mind! Do you think I'd need to fake tan?

That's an excellent website jackie! And Sparkley's dress in grey looks very nice. I think I'd have to try both colours to see what suited me and has the best shoe options

I do like tge debenhams dresses and coast, but last year lots of people were wearing them and I don't want to be wearing the same dress as someone else! (although, there are some seriously nice ones on there so they are still an option)

Gemy · 21/03/2008 08:31

What do you think of these (for the dress in green)

www.lkbennett.com/products/shoes/shoessandals/shoessandalseveningoccasion/feather/pid-28858gold

Blowing the budget mind, but I can't help staring at them and imagining that they'd look like.....

Also love the idea of the bright pink shoes so they are on the list too,

.....wish they'd hurry up and open so I can check they can hold my size! (isn't it funny when you find something you like, you are convinced that the whole stock will be sold out within minutes if you don't buy it RIGHT NOW) but both colour dresses (plus a blue option) are in stock on web so should be ok. Don't panic. Phew.

I do love window shopping at net a porter choosy and found this amazing floor length Issa gown at around £400. But husband was firm when he said I couldn't have it....sob sob.

Have to say, I'm not sure about the gold ones. They look a bit middle aged to me, sorry. But that's just me.

If you wanted pink, they've got these or these.
I quite like these, or how about these if you decide to go for the grey?

Gemy · 21/03/2008 16:47

Hi Jackie, mmmmm I can see what you mean about them looking a bit 'mature'. I am going tomorrow so can look closer then. You see, I was thinking going for gold shoes and a gold pendant necklace to keep the look young (and maybe a gold cuff but not sure)

Good idea? Hideous idea?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 21/03/2008 16:55

Definitely good to look at them in the flesh, so to speak. I like the idea of a cuff - but I like chunky jewellery. Something with a hammered finish, maybe?

Gemy · 21/03/2008 17:41

I'm thinking chunky too jackieNo. And like the hammered effect - was thinking chunky pendant too like this:

www.net-a-porter.com/product/305377

but does it look a bit chavvy?!!!

www.net-a-porter.com/product/31156

what about this?

though I have no intention of spending this amount of money - just want to get an idea!!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 21/03/2008 19:24

Couldn't see the first one, but I like the second one, and it's the right sort of length, I think.

JackieNo · 21/03/2008 19:30

I know it's not gold, but I came across this and thought it was amazing (with the fuchsia shoes?). Can't find the price though.

JackieNo · 21/03/2008 20:30

This is OK, still not quite what I had in mind. There are loads in silver, but not so many in gold. This is more like what I thought (it's got the shininess) - but it's out of stock.

Gemy · 21/03/2008 22:33

Love that shiny one jackieNo - that would look stunning. There does seem to be an awful lot around in silver!! (should I go blue dress and silver accessories?)

What about this but not shiny?

And I like this but would it go?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 22/03/2008 08:07

I like both of those - possibly the first one a bit more. Maybe the blue/grey one and silver accessories. I do love the green one though.

Gemy · 22/03/2008 19:27

Just to update the LK Bennett dress was also funny length on me so I had this as option 2. But, went to Karen Millen and bought this:

www.karenmillen.com/fcp/product/-/Dresses/Applique-Ribbon-Dress/903000050943?page=prod903000050943

And these shoes:

www.lkbennett.com/products/shoes/shoescourts/shoescourtsslingback/sultan/pid-28889black

The dress has loads of layers of petticoats underneath and sticks out loads and is really princessy and the shoes are very cute and elegant.

thankyou all for your advice and help xxx
