Can anyone advise what will happen with this Vinted transaction? Lost parcel

I'm gutted and the seller may think I'm scamming them 😩(I'm not).

I made an offer on some trainers on Vinted that was accepted. Seller sent them via second class Royal Mail with a certificate of posting (so no detailed tracking information and compensation won't cover the cost I paid if they have to claim anyway).

Royal Mail website shows they were posted on Thursday and delivered early Saturday morning via a delivery office 25 miles away (which is weird and makes no sense).

The parcel wasn't left in the porch or with neighbours. I was at home at the time and nobody knocked. Our local posties didn't leave the local delivery office until after 9am on Saturday as I checked with one when I realised it had been marked delivered Saturday morning but hadn't arrived.

I've called Royal Mail who confirmed it shows as delivered and agree it's weird that the limited tracking information states they were delivered via an office so many miles away.

Seller didn't put a return address on so no chance of them being returned to them if they were left at the wrong address.

I'm sure they think I have the trainers and I categorically don't. They claim to have called Royal Mail who said parcel was handed to resident - which is impossible as a) it wasn't and b) second class parcel tracking is very limited and doesn't record where the parcel was left, and no photo is taken by the postie as it's not a "tracked" service.

Do I have a chance of getting my money back from Vinted even though the RM website says they've been delivered?

I've been looking for these trainers for nearly two years and genuinely haven't received them but just can't prove it.

I've had this happen twice. Vinted parcels delivered by Evri, one ended up delivered 26 miles away, another a random doorway somewhere.

I messaged the sellers and explained, Evri were useless but I did get refunds from Vinted. I did feel.for the poor sellers though and I hope they also got refunded in some way.

Appreciate its not always an option but now I select the pick up lockers if I can as that delivery seems more reliable and less likely to get lost!

I hope they turn up for you OP especially as you've been looking out for the trainers for so long

Filterphobia · 31/01/2024 20:29

I had something similar happen recently but I was the seller. Weeks later the parcel turned up and the buyer messaged me to check that I had been compensated, which I had, so had she. She ended up getting the item for free and I was also paid for it.

Maybe you will get lucky and the trainers will turn up further down the line. I also imagine they will refund you

Vintedproblems · 31/01/2024 20:37

@Filterphobia I desperately hope they do turn up! Thank you.

@Nobble Sorry to hear you had similar. Unfortunately RM was the only option that came up for postage (I think it has something to do with it being from an offer). How I wish they had been sent tracked or to a locker 😣

At least you have the proof that they were handled 25 miles away. I'd very much that the seller might think I was lying, only because I worry about such things. I hope you get it sorted xxx

Hmmm, they weren't HOKA by any chance were they? Does the seller have a rating or are they new to Vinted? There was a scam going on later last year. Lots of pairs appeared apparently from unrated/new sellers. I ordered a pair against my better judgement and the seller sent me a generic pic of a parcel to 'prove' they'd sent it. It never arrived. Vinted refunded me and booted them off

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 31/01/2024 21:23

Did the proof of postage that you saw have your address on it?

Junobug · 31/01/2024 21:25

I've sent a parcel that got lost and then returned to me. Vinted refunded the buyer and atill paid me for the item without a question. They seem to be really good about this.

Yes - correct house number and postcode.

Good to know - I'd rather get the trainers though! The seller didn't put a return address on the parcel so only chance is it turns up here eventually.

No not Hoka and they do seem to be a genuine seller with other listings.

If they bought the label online then they'll have had to input their address so the barcode could still link it back to the seller. The fact it says it's been delivered 'somewhere' though is an issue as it may not be with RM anymore. Have you tried calling the DO it was supposedly delivered by and enquiring?

TeabySea · 31/01/2024 23:19

Vintedproblems · 31/01/2024 22:52

Yes - correct house number and postcode.

Is there a similar address near to the sorting office it was allegedly delivered from? I wonder if it was a genuine mistake on the part of the delivery person.

As RM messed up, and they've already pretty much said so, can you claim from them? Or does the seller have to, and then can refund you?

I'd be tempted to forward all the info to the seller to advise that you haven't had the item and it appears to have been misdirected in transit as per the info.

They didn’t buy it online just got a certificate of posting from the post office.
I’ve called Royal Mail twice - there are no direct numbers to delivery offices these days just a customer services number.

Ok so progress. RM have confirmed the parcel was delivered to an address in the town 25 miles away. Looks like they weren’t being particularly helpful when I spoke to them before.

They’ve started an investigation and are trying to retrieve the parcel from where it was delivered to. They think the postage label could have fallen off or another label got stuck to it.

They’ve taken a description of the trainers and the size so if they have to open the box (if there’s no label) they can re- send them to me.

Please pray to the trainer/postal gods for me 😂

Just to update, I finally got the trainers. There was no postage label on the parcel. Just grateful they arrived. No more Vinted purchases!

That's not a Vinted issue!

surfacedeamon · 13/02/2024 06:32

Vinted is great but do not use Royal Mail going forward. Too many issues as you’ve found d out. Glad you got your trainers though.
